Org. Setting and Reporting

The OOSA-Office of the Director internship is for two (2) months with an opportunity for extension up to a total of six (6) months, pending on the needs of the office and the availability of the intern.

The internship is UNPAID and full-time.

Interns work five days per week (40 hours) under the supervision of a staff member in the department or office to which they are assigned.

In the context of the COVID-19 pandemic, applicants may be requested to undertake the internship remotely in view of constraints regarding visa issuance, international travel and access to UN premises. Applicants must be willing and prepared to undertake the internship remotely for a part or the entirety of the internship.

Responsibilities

Daily responsibilities will depend on the individualโ€™s background; the internโ€™s assigned office as well as the internship period. Duties may include, but are not limited to:

1.Prepare inputs for publications, draft speeches, statements and presentations for the Director to major global conferences and meetings of the United Nations and space-related entities, the United Nations Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space and its subsidiary bodies.
2.Support the Space4Women project. Maintain the website, communicate with mentors, plan meetings and coordinate activities.
3.Prepare various written outputs of the Office, e.g. background papers, analytical and briefing notes, and sections of official reports and studies.
4.Support, as necessary, the implementation of outreach activities originating from the Office of the Director, capacity building initiatives, including Officeโ€™s public relations and outreach campaigns.
5.Assist in the preparation of programme planning, budget and performance outputs.
6.Draft background notes, papers, factsheets, spreadsheets and other documents in support of the Officeโ€™s programme budget, fundraising activities and other administration obligations, including updating internal databases and other planning tools.
7.Provide general administrative support, if needed.
8.Prepare monthly reports, summaries, meeting minutes, standard operating procedures and other management related outputs.
9.Perform other tasks as necessary

Education

To qualify for an internship with the United Nations Internship Programme, the following conditions must be met:

โ€ขApplicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor's level or equivalent); (OFFICIAL MATRICULATION PROOF IN SUPPORT OF ONE OF THE ABOVE OPTIONS HAS TO BE ATTACHED TO THE INSPIRA APPLICATION).

โ€ขBe computer literate in standard software applications; proficiency in preparing spreadsheets;

โ€ขHave a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter; and

โ€ขHave a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.

Languages

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations. Fluency in English, i.e. oral and written proficiency is required. Knowledge of another official United Nations language is an advantage.

United Nations Considerations
