The position is located in the Division for Palestinian Rights of the Department of Political and Peacebuilding Affairs at UN Headquarters in New York. The Division for Palestinian Rights serves as the Secretariat of the Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People (CEIRPP). Among many other tasks, the Division manages Committeeโ€™s social media accounts and the United Nations Information System on the Question of Palestine (UNISPAL), which is the worldโ€™s largest online repository of documents on the question of Palestine. The unique UN-run information system collects and makes available UN and external documents on the issue to a range of stakeholders from diplomats to scholars and students and is considered one of the largest focused repositories on the internet.

The Intern reports to the team leader of the Monitoring, Research, Publications and UNISPAL section and assists with other tasks in the Division as needed.

This internship is offered for an initial period of three months and may be extended up to six months.
The internship is unpaid and full-time.

Interns work five days per week (35 hours) under the supervision of a staff member in the office to which they are assigned. Responsibilities

This Internship will require social/digital media management skills, including content creation and data trends analysis, and variety of video skills, including video editing. The Intern should be familiar with common video and image editing software packages, including subtitles and visual effects. The selected individual should have the ability to work in a fast-paced environment while paying close attention to detail and meeting deadlines. Under the primary supervision of the Officer in charge of social media and overall supervision of the team leader, the Intern will:
โ€ข Assist in the creation of original content for social media platforms such as Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube.
โ€ข Collect social media content at special events (film screenings, concerts, exhibits, etc.).
โ€ข Analyze social media trends, audience engagement, performance indicators.
โ€ข Undertake other assignments including drafting, as required to support the Division for Palestinian Rights.
โ€ข Research, compile, draft and edit information for use in the preparation and production of social media content.
โ€ข Provide production assistance, videography, video editing assistance.
โ€ข Help execute video communications plans developed by the team.
โ€ข Take and edit photos and record videos in variety of multimedia formats for web content and announcements on social media platforms.
โ€ข Create layouts and designs for web content and online announcements.
โ€ข Identify UN-related storytelling opportunities and translate stories into completed content.
โ€ข Support ongoing multimedia updates to the UNISPAL website. Competencies

To qualify for an internship with the United Nations New York Headquarters Internship Programme, the following conditions must be met:

1. Applicants must: (a) be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or, (b) be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelorโ€™s level or equivalent).

2. Be computer literate in standard word processing and spreadsheets software applications such as Microsoft Word and Excel or similar. Have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter; and have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include a willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.

Work Experience

No working experience is required to apply for the United Nations Internship Programme. Your training, education, advance course work or skills should benefit the United Nations during your internship. Languages

English or French are the working languages of the United Nations. For the internship advertised, fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another official language of the United Nations (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian and Spanish) is desirable. Assessment

Interns are not financially remunerated by the United Nations. Costs and arrangements for travel, visas, accommodation and living expenses are the responsibility of interns or their sponsoring institutions. For internships in the United States of America, interns who are not United States citizens, permanent residents or not currently in the United States on a non-immigrant visa status will be required to obtain a G-4 visa. If already in the United States of America on another non-immigrant visa status other than G-4, interns will be responsible for ensuring that they have a valid visa, and if required, employment authorization, allowing them to undertake the internship.

In the context of the COVID-19 pandemic, applicants may be requested to undertake the internship remotely in view of constraints regarding visa issuance, international travel and access to UN premises. United Nations Considerations

According to article 101, paragraph 3, of the Charter of the United Nations, the paramount consideration in the employment of the staff is the necessity of securing the highest standards of efficiency, competence, and integrity. Candidates will not be considered for employment with the United Nations if they have committed violations of international human rights law, violations of international humanitarian law, sexual exploitation, sexual abuse, or sexual harassment, or if there are reasonable grounds to believe that they have been involved in the commission of any of these acts. The term โ€œsexual harassmentโ€ means any unwelcome conduct of a sexual nature that might reasonably be expected or be perceived to cause offence or humiliation, when such conduct interferes with work, is made a condition of employment or creates an intimidating, hostile or offensive work environment, and when the gravity of the conduct warrants the termination of the perpetratorโ€™s working relationship. Candidates who have committed crimes other than minor traffic offences may not be considered for employment.
