Work LocationHQ Amman Expected durationThe duration is for three months with a possible extension of maximum six months, depending on the needs of the department. The desired start date is 1 August 2025. Duties and ResponsibilitiesResponsibilities of the internship position encompass the following aspects of HRPALD work. These responsibilities may include, but are not limited to: - Conduct legal research and analysis on issues related to International Administrative Law, including UNRWAโ€™s governing legal instruments and issuances and jurisprudence from the UNRWA Dispute Tribunal and United Nations Appeals Tribunal; - Conduct policy research and analysis; - Assist in drafting and reviewing legal documents, including memoranda, briefs, policy documents and correspondence; - Assist in the disposition of disciplinary cases, including review of investigation reports, drafting allegations of misconduct, recommendations to management and correspondence; - Assist in the collection and analysis of disciplinary data; - Assist in the disposition of Decision Review Requests (DRRs) contesting administrative decisions; - Provide legal and policy support to HR practitioners on the implementation of administrative issuances including exceptions thereto; - Assist in the preparation of amendments to the regulatory framework; and - Perform other duties as appropriate. Qualifications/special skillsTo qualify for an internship with the UNRWA Internship Programme, the following conditions must be met: 1) Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) Be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme in law (second university degree such as a J.D., LL.M. or equivalent, or higher); or, (b) Be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme and have completed at least four years of studies in law (minimum bachelor's level or equivalent). 2) Be computer literate in standard software applications; 3) Have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter; and 4) Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views. LanguagesEnglish and Arabic are the working languages of UNRWA. For this internship, fluency in English is required. Knowledge of Arabic is an advantage. Interns work five days per week (35 hours) under the supervision of a staff member in the office to which they are assigned.
