This intern opportunity is located within the Consumption and Production unit at UNEP.

Its Economy Division provides solutions to decision-makers and helps change the business environment by offering platforms for multi- stakeholder dialogue and cooperation, innovative policy options, pilot projects and creative market mechanisms to improve the quality of the environment and the well-being of citizens. It promotes sustainable patterns of consumption and production, makes efficient use of natural resources, ensures safe management of chemicals and contribute to making trade and environment policies mutually supportive. The Economy Division has successfully implemented projects at the global level, in the areas of circularity in various sectors (such as electronics, plastics, textile, chemicals and food etc.), life cycle applications, eco-innovation, cleaner production, sustainable tourism, sustainable food systems, renewable energy, and consumer information.
The Consumption and Production Unit, Resources and Markets Branch of the Economy Division promotes Resource Efficiency and Sustainable Consumption and Production (SCP) in governments and businesses worldwide. One focus area of the Unit is to build circularity in sectors (electronics, plastics, textile, etc.), by mapping sectoral value chains at global level, identifying hotspots along those value chains and implementing interventions, as well as convening relevant stakeholders to promote and upscale circularity solution .
This intern post is located in the Consumption and Production Unit at the Paris duty station, supporting the work on circular economy in the plastic and electronic sectors.

The internship will last for a duration of six (6) months. The Internship is unpaid and full-time.
Interns work five days per week (35 hours) under the supervision of a staff member in the department or office to which they are assigned.

Interns are not financially remunerated by the United Nations. Costs and arrangements for travel, visas, accommodation and living expenses are the responsibility of interns or their sponsoring institutions. Responsibilities

Under the direct supervision of the Programme Officers, the intern will:
- Provide day-to-day support (drafting of documents, minutes, and presentations, etc.) for projects managed by the Unit, including a GEF project on addressing plastic pollution in the Latin American and Caribbean cities.
- Assist with research and data collection on themes related to circular economy (especially on the high-impact sectors of plastics and electronics), resource efficiency, hotspot analysis, and related themes according to the needs of the projects.
- Contribute towards the Unitโ€™s communications activities and assist with preparing outreach with stakeholders and partners.
- Assist with the logistical preparation of meetings, events, and webinars organized by the unit.
- Assist with cross-unit collaboration opportunities.

Applicants must at the time of application meet one of the following requirements:
a. Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher);
b. Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum Bachelor's level or equivalent);
c. Have graduated with a university degree and, if selected, must commence the internship within a one-year period of graduation.
Studies in Environmental Policy/Management/Sciences/Engineering; International Affairs/Relations, preferably related to sustainable development issues are required.
Be computer literate in standard software applications.

Work Experience

No working experience is required to apply for the United Nations Internship Programme. Your training, education, advance course work or skills should benefit the United Nations during your internship. Languages

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this internship, fluency in oral and written English is required. Knowledge of Spanish is desirable. Assessment
