Org. Setting and Reporting

The Environment and Development Division, Environment and Development Policy Section internship is for two months with an opportunity for extension, if required by the division.

The internship is UNPAID and full-time.

Interns work five days per week (35 hours) under the supervision of a staff member in the division or office to which they are assigned.

Environment and Development Policy Section plays a leading role in facilitating the analysis, development, promotion and dissemination of innovative policies in the field of environment and development. With a focus on 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the Sustainable Development Goals. To improve the capacity of policymakers in the region to development implementation strategies in an integrated manner the Section developed and maintains the SDG help Desk, which is developed as a one-stop online platform and provides access to knowledge products, organized under various thematic areas, covering a multitude of topics, data portals, toolboxes, on-line e-learning courses, good practices, and technical assistance, as well as the SDG Help Desk community of practice.

Responsibilities

To conduct supporting research on issues related to implementation of the SDGs that will add value to the increasing and widening knowledge products and services of the SDG Help Desk (http://sdghelpdesk.unescap.org) and support capacity development activities conducted under the gateway. The required tasks will include:

โ€ขAssist with relevant research for the development of new thematic areas and updating the main service lines on the SDG Help Desk
โ€ขAssist with relevant research on impact of COVID-19 on SDG implementation plans and strategies, including economic recovery
โ€ขSupport development of on-line e-learning training courses and delivery of virtual and if possible on-site training sessions
โ€ขAssist with the preparation of various outreach meetings, training and briefing sessions, webinars and related concept notes and promotional materials
โ€ขAssist with the engagement with members of the SDG Help Desk Community of Practice and outreach to new members
โ€ขMaintain and further expand SDG Hep Desk outreach and partners/collaborating centreโ€™s engagement, as well as migration of content to regional knowledge management hub
โ€ขAssist with the development of public awareness materials โ€“ posters, infographics, logos, templates for case studies, etc
โ€ขKnowledge of InDesign, Content Management System (Drupal) and Flash, and experience with Google statistics are an advantage

Education

To qualify for an internship with the United Nations Internship Programme, applicants must meet one of the following requirements:

a)be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or
b)be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelorโ€™ s level or equivalent); or
c)have graduated with a university degree (as defined above) and, if selected, must commence the internship within a one-year period of graduation.

Languages

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Fluency in spoken and written English is required for the internship. Knowledge of an additional official UN language is an asset. Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish are the official languages of the United Nations Secretariat.
