Addressing climate and disaster risks coherently across the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) requires a whole-of-government and whole-of-society approach.ย The Capacity for Disaster Reduction Initiative (CADRI)ย is a global partnership of 20 UN and non-UN organizations, leveraging complementary expertise across social, economic, and environmental sectors to strengthen countriesโ capacities for integrated disaster and climate risk reduction. The CADRI Partnership Secretariat operates under the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Geneva Office.
To expand its geographical reach and effectively communicate its services and impact, the CADRI Partnership implements a comprehensive communications strategy. This strategy aims to position CADRI as the โpartner of choiceโ for capacity development in disaster risk reduction (DRR) and climate change adaptation (CCA), while documenting and sharing compelling stories of country-level impact.
The CADRI Secretariat is seeking a Communications and Design Intern to support the implementation of this strategy, with a focus on developing, designing, and disseminating high-quality communications and knowledge products.ย
Duties and ResponsibilitiesThe CADRI Partnership through UNDP is recruiting an intern to join the team to develop, design, and layout its communications and knowledge products. The intern will be part of the CADRI Secretariat team in Geneva. S/he will work under the direct supervision of the CADRI Programme Coordinator, and in collaboration with CADRI partners (e.g. FAO, IOM, OCHA, UNDP, UNICEF, WFP and WHO) communication experts, to perform the following duties:
Design and layout
Design communications products, including quarterly bulletins, monthly country engagement updates, and country blog stories, ensuring alignment with CADRIโs branding guidelines; Format and layout country engagement outputs including Capacity Diagnosis Reports and Policymakersโ Digests; Design engaging presentations for meetings with CADRI partners, governments, and financing stakeholders; Design a final report to showcase the Partnershipโs activities and achievements during the current CADRI Joint Programme (2019 โ 2025), ensuring high-quality content and visuals.ยPromotional materials
Create promotional content for global events and advocacy opportunities, including flyers and banners; Assist in developing and implementing a marketing strategy to promote the digitalย CADRI Toolย for capacity diagnosis by designing videos, brochures, and infographics; Develop communications products to celebrate and showcase the achievements of 15 years of the CADRI Partnership, including the design of infographics, brochures, and visual storytelling materials.Digital and social media content
Support and coordination
Assist the CADRI Programme Coordinator with any other communications and design tasks as required, including proofreading and editing tasks; Monitor engagement metrics for social media and campaigns, providing recommendations for improvement. Competencies Exceptional attention to detail and proven experience in proofreading; Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English; Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities; Initiative, ability to work independently, and effective teamwork skills; Client orientation and strong interpersonal skills; Demonstration of cultural sensitivity and appreciation of different cultures and practices. ย Required Skills and Experience Knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite and Proficient use of Adobe InDesignย are essential requirements. Adobe Photoshop, Premiere Pro and After Effects are desirable. The applicants should be able to provide evidential proof of possessing these skills; Advanced knowledge of MS Office; Sound computer skills and experience using web-based applications, social media, and content management systems. Education:Applicants to the UNDP internship programme must at the time of application meet one of the following requirements:
Be enrolled in a postgraduate degree programme (such as a masterโs programme, or higher); Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (such as bachelorโs degree or equivalent); Have recently graduated with a university degree (as defined in (a) and (b) above) and, if selected, must start the internship within one-year of graduation; Be enrolled in a postgraduate professional traineeship program and undertake the internship as part of this program.The applicant should be enrolled in a programme, as stated in requirements a) b), c) or d), in Communication, Public Relations, Events, Graphic Design or related field.
