Work LocationNairobi Duty Station - in person Expected duration3-6 Months Duties and ResponsibilitiesThe United Nations Office at Nairobi (UNON) is the UN headquarters in Africa and the Director-General of UNON is the representative of the Secretary-General in Kenya. UNON supports programme implementation of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) and the Resident Coordination System (RCS) globally, as well as other UN offices in Kenya, by providing administrative, security, conference and information services (www.unon.org). This position is located at the United Nations Office at Nairobi (UNON), Division of Administrative Services (DAS), within the Information and Communications Technology Service (ICTS), Nairobi, Kenya. Under the direct supervision of the Information Systems Officer the intern will: โ€ข Utilize cloud computing platforms and principles for application development. โ€ข Create applications in accordance with validated user requirements and designated development platforms. โ€ข Conduct application testing and address identified bugs to ensure that only functional applications are deployed. โ€ข Generate comprehensive technical documentation, including system requirements, job aids, user manuals and ICT process guides. โ€ข Identify opportunities for solutions to enhance business processes and define the requirements of business users. Qualifications/special skillsApplicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in a graduate or undergraduate school programme in information and communication technology or related area; (b) be enrolled in the final academic year of degree programme in information and communication technology or related area; or (c) if pursuing their studies in countries where higher education is not divided into undergraduate and graduate stages, have completed at least three years of fulltime studies at a university or equivalent institution towards the completion of an information and communication technology degree or related degree. In addition, possessing any of the following skills will be an added advantage: โ€ข Cloud Computing Proficiency โ€“ Knowledge of cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Similar including services like compute, storage, and networking. โ€ข Programming skills โ€“ familiarity with scripting languages such as .Net, Python, Java and SQL. โ€ข Application Development - Knowledge in developing applications based on user requirements and utilizing modern development frameworks. โ€ข Testing and Debugging โ€“ Strong skills in application testing, debugging, and resolving system bugs to ensure high quality releases. โ€ข Business Analysis โ€“ Capability to identify areas for improvement in business processes and articulate business usersโ€™ requirements effectively. โ€ข Problem-solving skills โ€“ identifying issues or ways to improve systems that are already in place is a key job function, therefore must be a critical thinker who can successfully troubleshoot and solve problems. โ€ข Collaboration and Communication โ€“ Excellent teamwork and communication skills to work with stakeholders and cross-functional teams. Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience. However, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required. Applicants must be a student in the final year of the first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Masterโ€™s or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have completed a Bachelorโ€™s, Masterโ€™s or PH.D.
