5 Steps to get a job in the United Nations

Job Description

Your responsibilities

An engineering position is opened in the field of microelectronics communication circuits for particle physics detectors. The position is part of the Experimental-Physics Department research programme for the development of detectors and detector systems for the future High Energy Physics experiments at CERN. The research work will be centred on the development of radiation-hard integrated circuits for data transmission at very high data rates (~25.6 Gbps).

The engineer will be responsible for the development of architectures for communication ASICs and the design of high-speed data transmission CMOS circuits. Engineers with working experience in one or more of the following domains will be considered: High-Speed Differential Drivers (HSDD), Clock and Data Recovery (CDR) circuits, Phase Locked-Loops (PLL), Control Systems (CS), Optical Receivers (OR), Analog-to-Digital (ADC) and Digital-to-Analog (DAC) converters.

Additionally the engineer should have a solid background in electronics laboratory work, circuit testing and characterization, he/she will be responsible for system testing and radiation qualification of the devices developed. Given the diversity of circuits to be designed, the project will be tailored to the selected fellow skills.

About us

At CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research, physicists and engineers are probing the fundamental structure of the universe. Using the world's largest and most complex scientific instruments, they study the basic constituents of matter - fundamental particles that are made to collide together at close to the speed of light. The process gives physicists clues about how particles interact, and provides insights into the fundamental laws of nature. Find out more on http://home.cern.
