About this position:
The Transport Division is developing a digital transformation plan that promotes the adoption and use of new technologies to help close the development gap in infrastructure services in Latin America and the Caribbean. The development of such digital transformation plans includes prototypes, pilots, and projects in which new technologies contribute to solving problems in the region. These activities include technologies such as Data Analytics, Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, Big Data and Cloud Computing, Internet of Things and connectivity, use of drones and robots, video analysis and satellite images. The Transport Division is looking for a professional with experience in the appropriation of new technologies in the infrastructure realm with special attention to the transportation sector.
What youโll do:
Support the Transport Division in Trinidad and Tobago and in the Caribbean region in activities such as origination, monitoring, execution, and deployment of the lending portfolio and the application of Data Analytics, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, and Big Data, among others, to transport services in the Caribbean, which includes:
- Develop custom applications for visualization of civil works progress and coordinate required software/application development for data collection and backend development.
- Contributing to the execution of digital transformation plans and actively participating in the design and implementation of prototypes, pilots, and activities and components of projects that include application and use of new and innovative technologies in transport projects.
- Coordinate deployment of tools such as CaptuData, Pavimenta2, Field Data Collection, Resolv IMS, among others across the Caribbean region.
- Carry-on training to Caribbean agencies on Pavimenta2 and develop manuals for utilization of the tool as well as specific reporting and customized solutions to increase utilization.
- Identify, develop, and deploy technologies to monitor freight transport costs and time across transport modes.
- Analyzing and identifying the technologies and services offered by various firms and start-ups that can be applied to solve transportation problems in LAC.
- Define metrics and pro-poor technologies that can be implemented to support poverty alleviation.
- Supporting IDBยดs work to build an infrastructure data lake and its components such as tables, databases, and Big Data repositories.
- Participating in the development of transport investment projects, public policy proposals, and regulation of new infrastructure technology and contributing to the elaboration of publications for the IDB.
- Contribute to the identification, design and preparation of loans and technical cooperationโs for potential projects that respond to the Country Strategy, seeking to strengthen the Bank's multisectoral work in the Caribbean.
- Exploring and analyzing data from a variety of angles to determine weaknesses and to provide useful insights that help solve problems presented by TSP, using statistics and simple or advanced algorithms according to the complexity of the problems.
- Defining how to develop sophisticated analytical programs, including machine learning and statistical methods, to be used in predictive and prescriptive models in the context of dissemination and contextualization of information pertaining to a specific audience.
- Designing data visualizations, including heat maps, maps and reports using open-source software, to give the end user a better understanding of their information.
What you'll need:
- Education: Bachelorโs in engineering, Data Science, Economics, Mathematics, or related areas. Masterยดs degree in Computer Science, Innovation Management, Technology Management, Technology Strategy, Data Science, Statistics, or related areas is a plus.
- Experience: 2 to 5 years of experience in technology projects, preferably in infrastructure sectors.
- Languages: Proficiency in English.

Requirements:
- Citizenship: You are either a citizen of Trinidad y Tobago or a citizen of one of our 48-member countries with residency or legal permit to work in Trinidad y Tobago.
- Consanguinity: You have no family members (up to the fourth degree of consanguinity and second degree of affinity, including spouse) working at the IDB, IDB Invest, or IDB Lab.
