This position is located in the Information and Communications Technologies Section (ICTS), Administration Division, ECLAC Santiago. The Information Systems Assistant reports to the Head of User Support Unit.

Under the overall supervision of the Head of User Support Unit, the Information Systems Assistant will be responsible for the following duties:
• Acts as focal point for receipt and processing of user requests.
• Provides basic technical support on relevant hardware and software systems applications in assigned area.
• Installs application systems software and hardware according to specifications.
• Provides basic support in the planning, specification, design, development, implementation and maintenance of customized application software systems; builds, tests and modifies prototype application software based on detailed instructions; installs and maintains software systems.
• Supports senior staff in the creation and maintenance of application software within Microsoft Suite and web-based architectures, etc.; as well as in the production of training materials.
• Provides assistance with needs assessment for new systems (including modifications to existing systems); performs ongoing reviews with users and developers and responds to requirements; requests, implements, provides operational support and maintains various applications.
• Maintains regular contact with users and technical staff in user offices and provides support as required.
• Conducts research on new technologies as requested; keeps abreast of developments in the field; assists in testing and evaluating new products and technologies.
• Performs other related duties as required.
• PROFESSIONALISM: Knowledge of Microsoft products, Windows XP/Vista/7, Novell, Zenworks, Office 2007, ASP, SQL Server 2000 is required. Knowledge of Linux, Lotus Notes 8.5.3, Sametime 8.0.2, Citrix 9, Integrated Management Information System (IMIS), Cisco IP communicator, Check Point VPN Secure Client RS60, Office Trend Micro, WSUS and VMWare is desirable. Technological aware, actively seeks to apply technology to appropriate tasks. Basic programming skills. Good technical skills, provides user support. Ability to respond to changing requirements and assignments, ability to apply good judgement in the context of assignments given. Ability to conduct research on new technologies related to IT. High school diploma or equivalent is required.
NOTE: For positions in the General Service category, candidates are required to clearly indicate in their PHPs relevant information confirming completion of High School.
Five years of experience in end users device information technology systems analysis and desktop programming, PC systems administration and maintenance, desktop image software development, technical writing for IT Services or related area are required.
Experience in configuration of desktops, laptops, hardware and software is required.
Experience in user support is desirable.
Experience in configuration of mobile phones is desirable.
Experience in conducting research on new technologies is desirable.
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the post advertised, fluency in oral and written Spanish and knowledge in English is required.
NOTE: ‘’Advanced level of knowledge’’ equals a rating of ‘’fluent’’ in all four areas (speak, read, write, and understand) and ‘’intermediate knowledge’’ equals a rating of ‘’confident’’ in two of the four areas.

- This post is funded with extrabudgetary resources; thus, extension of appointment will be subject to availability of funds.
- Appointment for positions in the General Service category is done on a local basis. Applicants shall be recruited in the country or within commuting distance of the office, irrespective of nationality and length of time the candidate may have been in the country. Applicants will be responsible for any expenses incurred in taking the relevant examinations at the duty station, and of any costs related to traveling and relocating to the duty station in the event of an employment offer.

This equally applies, mutatis mutandis, with respect to a former or current staff member who has held or holds an appointment in another entity applying the United Nations Staff Regulations and Rules and who applies for a temporary position with the Secretariat.
