The UN Environment Programmeโs International Methane Emissions Observatory (IMEO) is a data-driven, action-focused initiative that drives deep reductions in methane emissionsโ the second biggest contributor to global climate change and a key opportunity to reduce warming in the near-term. IMEOโs mission is to provide the open, reliable, and actionable methane data needed to cut emissions at the speed and scale necessary to achieve the Paris Agreement goals. To do this, IMEO is harnessing a methane data revolution under way thanks to rapidly advancing technology and momentum for methane action. IMEO collects, integrates, and reconciles data from methane-detecting satellites, scientific measurement studies, rigorous industry reporting through the Oil and Gas Methane Partnership 2.0 (OGMP 2.0), and national emissions inventories. These initiatives are game-changers for climate action โ and as a core implementing partner of the Global Methane Pledge, IMEO is shaping the future of methane mitigation. IMEOโs Methane Science Studies have a diverse and growing interest from donors and the scientific community. To ensure smooth implementation of ongoing and new initiated studies and coordination with other IMEO workstreams, a Science Study Coordination Support Consultant is needed. The consultant/individual contractor will report to the Methane Science Study Manager. Experience working with international organisations and/or government counterparts is an asset. LanguagesFluency in spoken and written English is required, knowledge of other UN languages is an asset. Additional InformationThe consultant will be responsible for supporting the Methane Science Studies Coordinator in project development, execution and close-out activities โข Day-to-day operations: Support the Methane Science Studies Coordinator to maintain a tracker on the status of IMEO science activities, including contracting progress, campaign and research progress, donor relations and science events. The consultant will have a daily check-in meeting with the coordinator and coordinate within the science team to collect information and keep various activity trackers up to date. โข Grants: Support the development of donor agreements, participate in the progress reporting meetings with donors, liaise with other IMEO workstreams to showcase IMEO work and achievements. Support both the donor reporting and UNEP internal reporting. โข Contracts: Prepare Implementation Partner contracts with scientific partners and report to the Science Studies Coordinator on major developments, and flag potential challenges and support needed from the coordinator and the broader team. Support the administrative procedures to recruit new members of the science team. โข Meetings and Events: Support science study related events and meetings including the Scientific Oversight Committee (SOC) meetings, weekly meetings with science studies Points Of Contactss, meetings, webinars and training for Principal Investigators from scientific partners, any other meetings with stakeholders. โข IMEO Internal Coordination: Support IMEO work relevant to science studies, including supporting the development of briefings and other internal documents, reviewing communications content on science studies, etc. Specific tasks: โข Building and maintaining trackers to monitor the status of IMEO science activities, including contracting progress, campaign and research progress, donor relations and science events. โข Supporting the development of donor agreements and the reporting to European Commission โข IMEO science study contracting materials and packages. โข Supporting all the science study related events and meetings, including drafting agenda and meeting summaries. โข Supporting the science coordinator to build synergy between science and other workstream, including organizing and supporting inter-workstream meetings and drafting science related materials for policy and industry audience.
