About this position

IDB Invest’s Investment Operations Department’s goal is to generate sustainable projects with significant development impact from the prospecting stage through closing and monitoring.

Our department follows a matrix model, with three Segment Divisions covering Infrastructure and Energy, Financial Institutions and Corporates, and three transversal areas such as the Financial Products and Services Division, and the Portfolio Management Division.

IDB Invest's Corporates Division is responsible for supporting a broad range of critical business sectors, including agribusiness, manufacturing, tourism, and the Digital Economy.

We are a dynamic, multicultural team consisting of sectorial experts.. We are always looking to provide innovative financial and knowledge solutions to our clients to solve the digital divide in Latin America and the Caribbean, covering the following segmentsDigital Infrastructure and Devices/Digital Infrastructure Enablers: Mobile Network Operators, Fixed Communications Companies, Telecom Tower Companies, Data Centers, and others. Technologies: Innovative business models including Technology Platforms, Marketplaces, Software as a Service, and other services provided through Digital Infrastructure.

As an Investment Officer in the Digital Economy segment, you will report to the Director of Digital Economy and coordinate with other organizational units of IDB Invest, IDB, and IDB Lab, as needed.

What you’ll do:

Originate new relationships and business opportunities in Digital Economy space, responsible for the delivery of projects across Latin America and the Caribbean, become the industry-recognized expert, provide insights to internal and external stakeholders, and be a mentor for the junior staffs.

Relationship Management/Project Origination

Build new relationships with industry experts, potential clients, potential partners, and stakeholders to generate new business. Maintain close and regular contacts with existing IDB Invest clients and future originations. Discover potential new clients and projects through contacts and social media. Analyze financing requests from potential clients and prepare the mandate letter, the indicative term sheet, and internal documentations, including Know-Your-Customer analysis.

Project Structuring, Closing, and Disbursement

Act as the project leader and lead transactions involving the use of loans, credit guarantees, and equity and quasi-equity instruments from origination to the first disbursement. Lead and coordinate the multicultural project team consisting of the environmental, social and governance safeguards, finance, development effectiveness, legal, and risk functions as it relates to project structuring and closing of deals. Disseminate information to project teams on transaction strengths, weaknesses, risks, and risk mitigation options. Lead structuring and the provision of non-financial advisory services in Climate Change, Gender, Diversity, and Inclusion (“GDI”), Sustainability/Value Chain, and Digital Transformation.

Digital Economy Strategy and Expertise

Stay ahead of industry dynamics, innovations in the market by competitors, and developments.. Share market intelligence across the sector and the IDB Group, as relevant. Be recognized as a Digital Economy segment expert and represent the institution on the topic in industry-related events and activities. Supervise the preparation of lessons learned related to Digital Economy projects within and outside the IDB Group.

Mentoring and Coaching

Coordinate the work and provides coaching, mentoring and technical advice to more junior Investment Management Officers and Analysts working in the TMT segment. Education: Master’s degree or equivalent in Finance, Business Administration, Engineering, International Development or another relevant field. Experience: You have at least four years of relevant experience in loan origination, structuring or portfolio management with a proven track-record working with debt, mezzanine instruments, and equity. You have experience investing in the Digital Economy segment, preferably in Latin America and the Caribbean. Your confirmed experience in a similar role in a PE/VC, investment, commercial or developmental bank is desirable. Strong financial modeling/valuation and analytical skills will be considered a plus. Languages: Proficiency in Spanish and English, spoken and written, is required. Additional knowledge of Portuguese is considered a plus.

Requirements

Citizenship: You are either a citizen of Colombia or with residency or legal permit to work in Colombia. Consanguinity: You have no family members (up to the fourth degree of consanguinity and second degree of affinity, including spouse) working at the IDB, IDB Invest, or IDB Lab.

Type of contract and duration

International: National staff contract, 36 months initially, renewable upon mutual agreement.
