About this position

The Social Protection and Health Division is looking for a dynamic and innovative health junior professional who will help us change peopleโ€™s lives in Latin America and the Caribbean, working on the design, supervision, implementation, and evaluation of policies and operations to promote access to quality, equitable and sustainable health services to make progress towards universal health coverage, as well as on early childhood development programs, long-term care and support for persons with functional dependency, resilient social protection, and inclusion policies and strategies.

You will work in the Social Protection and Health (SPH) Division. Depending on your expertise and the demands from our clients in Trinidad and Tobago, your work will center on the areas of non-communicable, chronic care model, and mental health diseases, infectious diseases, public health, health system strengthening, health financing, health policies to improve quality of services โ€“including continuous quality improvement, strategy formulation, and/or the digital transformation of the health sector. You may also participate in the core areas of social protection, namely, early childhood development programs, long-term care and support for persons with functional dependency and resilient social protection.

What you will do:

Participate in the origination, design, and preparation of Bank operational, analytical, and strategic activities (including country strategies, analyses of country development challenges, loans, policy dialogues, events, and knowledge initiatives). Participate in the supervision of the execution and the monitoring and evaluation of operations for which the IDB has approved financing. Participate in policy-oriented research. Collaborate with and support the activities related to the health sector within the IDB Group. Collaborate in the preparation of technical reports and analysis of sectoral information. Contribute to the transfer of technical and operational knowledge to entities in charge of the execution of IDB financed operations. Participate in project meetings with the Executing Agency of IDB financed operations and provide operational support services to the IDB team regarding planning, implementation, and monitoring of key component activities under the operations. Support and participate in technical meetings and policy dialogue with Government authorities and development partners. Support stakeholder engagement across persons, agencies, entities, organizations and/or the public associated with IDB-financed operations. Prepare dynamic, modern, creative presentations and agreed communication material (project updates, press releases, blogs, etc.) on various project activities. Disseminate economic/sector knowledge and learning tools to enhance the relevance of the IDB to borrowing countries and the region. Engage with health specialists in other multilateral and bilateral institutions, academic institutions, think tanks, NGOs, and professional bodies to promote collaborations. Provide other support to the analytical and operational work agenda on health of the Division, as needed.

What you will need:

Education: You hold a Masterโ€™s degree in public health, epidemiology, applied economics, public policy, social policy, social welfare, sociology, or related disciplines, or a Medical degree and experience in health policy.

Experience: You have at least three years of relevant health policy, public health interventions, health systems strengthening, and project management or project operational experience. Experience in digital health transformation initiatives is a plus.

Languages: You are proficient in English. Proficiency in another Bank language (Spanish, Portuguese, or French) is desirable. If the selected candidate is not proficient in a second language, should commit to learning, and language training is available..

Requirements

Citizenship: You are either a citizen of Trinidad and Tobago or a citizen of one of our 48-member countries with residency or legal permit to work in Trinidad and Tobago.

Consanguinity: You have no family members (up to the fourth degree of consanguinity and second degree of affinity, including spouse) working at the IDB, IDB Invest, or IDB Lab.

Type of contract and duration

National staff contract, 36 months initially, renewable upon mutual agreement.
