Description
GNSS Technology R&D Engineer in the GNSS Evolution Upstream R&D Implementation Office of the Galileo and EGNOS Evolution Division, Galileo and EGNOS Programme Department, Directorate of Navigation.
The Galileo and EGNOS Evolution Division is responsible for defining, consolidating and implementing innovative technology and supporting research & development for the next generations of European GNSS.
If selected for the position, you, as GNSS Technology R&D Engineer, will directly contribute to the future of European satellite navigation systems (such as GNSS, SBAS and multi-layer space-based PNT systems), in particular on space segment technologies, with the definition and implementation of a comprehensive R&D programme involving new concepts and cutting-edge technologies
Duties
Under the supervision of the Head of the GNSS Evolution Upstream R&D Implementation Office, you will be responsible for:
- defining, managing and supporting, including the technical monitoring and reporting aspects, GNSS evolution R&D activities arranged under Horizon 2020 and Horizon Europe Upstream GNSS R&D Programmes, in coordination with:
- the GNSS Evolution Payload Principal Engineer, in particular for aspects relating to space segment technologies;
- the Galileo System and EGNOS Offices for system aspects.
- supporting the identification and definition of activities on novel satellite navigation technology R&D, along with related technologies for global and regional satellite navigation systems, in particular in relation to space segment technologies and system-related aspects, including:
- the survey of the relevant state-of-the-art and the taking account of the technical status and plans of other GNSS/RNSS constellations and innovative navigation technologies in terms of technology development;
- the coordination of relevant technology R&D activities as run in other ESA programmes, related activities at European Commission level and third-party programmes (such as National Programmes and other international institutions);
- the formulation of technological evolution roadmaps for possible implementation.

A master's degree in a scientific or engineering discipline is required.
Additional requirements
Applicants for this post should have acquired relevant experience in the areas identified for the vacancy, particularly in activities associated with early R&D developments of satellite systems.
A well-developed system view and good knowledge of technologies appropriate for GNSS/RNSS and PNT would be major assets.
Experience in international agencies and programmes would be an asset.
Candidates are expected to have good analytical, organisational, and reporting skills, a proactive attitude to problem-solving and an interest in innovative technologies. They should demonstrate responsible decision-making and be able to work and communicate effectively in a team setting.
Applicants must be eligible for security clearance for EU programmes from the relevant national authority.
