The International Water Management Institute (IWMI), a CGIAR research centre, is seeking applications from highly motivated and experienced GESI specialists for a consultancy assignment under the Swiss Development Cooperation (SDC) supported multi-year, multi-country project titled Solar Irrigation for Agriculture Resilience (SoLAR).

IWMI is currently implementing the first phase of this project in four countries \u2013 Nepal, Bangladesh, India, and Pakistan. The project aims to contribute to climate-resilient, gender and socially inclusive agrarian livelihoods in Nepal these four countries by supporting their respective government efforts to promote solar irrigation. The project will work closely with government partners to achieve its objectives.

Scope of work

The GESI consultant will support work on Gender, Equity and Social Inclusion (GESI) aspects of the SoLAR project. Specifically, the advisor will be responsible for ensuring that gender and social-inclusion is adequately incorporated across all work-streams the programme, including in policy reform and planned interventions. This position will be based in New Delhi, India with regular visits to field sites.

The project consultant will work closely with the regional project lead and country teams, and will be responsible for:

Preparing and executing a GESI strategy for the SoLAR programme, alongside the four country leads. Organizing meetings with key stakeholders of the project (farmers, women, youth, local authorities, community leaders, etc.) to gain insights into GESI issues in the four countries. Assessing the impact of the SoLAR programme on key GESI indicators using primary and secondary data Conducting research pilots, and field visits Preparing peer-reviewed research papers and articles to support findings Supporting engagement with key stakeholders, in particular policy makers. Working with the communications team to help disseminate findings Helping incorporate GESI research and findings into key national and regional forums for the project.

The work is also expected to help inform design and development of future phases of SoLAR and other IWMI India projects.

Requirements

Qualifications

Essential: At least Master\u2019s degree or Ph.D in Gender Studies/Social Science/Economics/Natural Resource Management with a strong understanding of gender issues in this field. Essential: At least 5 years demonstrable experience in conducting analysis and/or evaluation, and socio-economic surveys with expertise in gender/social inclusion related work. Essential: Previous experience and good comprehension of the local context of study areas for the programme Essential: Good understanding of GESI issues as applied to water, land, and ecosystems management as they relate to food security and climate change. Past GESI related work experience in agriculture/solar energy/natural resource management/climate change/ will be given priority. Ability to independently design and conduct research. Ability to engage with stakeholders, in particular with donor organisations. Excellent written and spoken English communication skills.
