Result of ServiceTo design, develop, and publish integrated Story Maps and Geo-Web Applications that present key issues related to renewable energy (solar energy) and its impact on society, the economy, and the environment in the Arab region. Each Story Map/Web App is to integrate spatial data, narrative text, multimedia, and visual analytics to provide clear and actionable insights. Work LocationHybrid Expected duration3 months Duties and ResponsibilitiesBackground: This individual contractor supports ESCWA’s Development Account Project on Improved Mapping and Monitoring of Solar Energy Access in the Arab Region. The consultant is to enhance solar energy data storytelling and renewable energy geospatial communication in the Arab region. The objective is to integrate renewable energy with socio-economic and environmental insights through interactive, web-based Story Maps and Geo-Web Applications, showcasing spatial data in a compelling and user-friendly format. The output will contribute to a broader regional effort to promote sustainable development and informed policymaking. Duties and responsibilities: The individual contractor will work on the following tasks: - Conceptualize and design integrated multi-theme Story Maps on Solar Energy themes and related sub-themes in consultation with the Division Lead and Geo-Insights Lab coordinator. Each theme and sub-themes will be focused on multi-dimensional solar energy policy issues covering: • Socio-demographic access • Economy and resilience • Environmental sustainability and opportunities • Integrated development - Source and integrate relevant spatial and statistical data. - Structure narrative flow and visual storytelling elements. - Ensure compatibility with ESCWA’s existing geospatial platforms (e.g., ArcGIS Online, Experience Builder). - Conduct quality control and cross-check the accuracy of visualized data. - Align content with ESCWA’s communication guidelines and regional priorities. - Detail Geo-Spatial Attributes with links to Concepts, Sources and Methods Qualifications/special skillsA Bachelor's degree in Natural Science, Engineering, Geography or related area is required. All candidates must submit a copy of the required educational degree. Incomplete applications will not be reviewed. A minimum of two years of demonstrated experience creating and publishing web-based geospatial maps and storytelling outcomes is required. A minimum of two years experience in metadata documentation and geo-data cataloguing, following standards and norms is required. Experience with ArcGIS platforms, StoryMaps, Experience Builder, and Web App is required. A strong understanding of spatial data, tabular data, and advanced Excel features, map design, and narrative visualization is required. Familiarity with social, economic, and environmental issues in the Arab region is desirable. LanguagesEnglish and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat; and Arabic is a working language of ESCWA. For this position, fluency in English is required and fluency in Arabic is desirable. Note: “Fluency” equals a rating of ‘fluent’ in all four areas (speak, read, write, and understand) and “Knowledge of” equals a rating of ‘confident’ in two of the four areas.
