5 Steps to get a job in the United Nations

Job title: GBV Intern, PSU, Humanitarian Response Division, Geneva
Full/Part time: 100% (can be adapted to part time for the right candidate)

Duration: 6 months with immediate start

How You Can Make a Difference:

UNFPA is the lead UN agency for delivering a world where every pregnancy is wanted, every childbirth is safe and every young person's potential is fulfilled. UNFPA expands choices and possibilities for women and young people to lead healthy and productive lives. Our work is derived from the ICPD Programme of Action; that all human beings are entitled to equal rights and protections and no one should be left behind in the fulfillment of their fundamental human rights. In a world where fundamental human rights are at risk, we need principled and ethical leaders, who embody these international norms and standards, and who will defend them courageously and with full conviction.

UNFPA’s strategic plan (2022-2024) focuses on three transformative results: to end preventable maternal deaths; end unmet need for family planning; and end gender-based violence and harmful practices.

Because GBV results in harmful physical, emotional and social consequences that often require information and care from multiple service providers, case management has become an integral part of the response to GBV in humanitarian settings. GBV case management is a structured method for providing help to a survivor whereby the survivor is informed of all the options available to them and the issues and problems facing a survivor are identified and followed up in a coordinated way, and emotional support is provided to the survivor throughout the process.

In humanitarian situations, GBV service provision through GBV case management is the primary entry point for survivors to access other services and receive crisis and longer-term psychosocial support, especially since more established health and social services are typically lacking in emergency settings.

One of the core interventions implemented by UNFPA in emergency settings is GBV case management. UNFPA aims to improve and enhance the provision of GBV case management services and systems. The Internship will contribute to reaching this goal.
