Description
The Galileo System AIV Engineer will be located in the Galileo G1 System Qualification Unit, System AIV and Deployment Service, Galileo First Generation Project Office, Galileo and EGNOS Programme Department, Directorate of Navigation, assigned as integrated support from Commercial User Segment and Navigation Systems Validation Section, Radio Frequency Systems Division, Electrical Department, Directorate of Technology, Engineering and Quality. The assignment as integrated support has an initial duration of three years, with the possibility of extension or reassignment to another project within the parent Directorate of Technology, Engineering and Quality at the end of the period, taking into account the professional interest and project priorities of the post holder.
S/he will be primarily responsible for the planning, supervision and execution of the Galileo G1 and G2 System Verification and Qualification activities.
Duties
The Galileo System AIV Engineer will be responsible for the following activities:
- Establishing an overall programme of work and associated planning for Galileo System Verification and Qualification (One Galileo SIVQ Roadmap), including the completion of Galileo 1st generation (G1) and the start of Galileo 2nd generation (G2);
- Supervising the definition, preparation and execution of Galileo G1 and G2 System Verification and Qualification activities including navigation related testing;
- Following up on the industrial activities related to the Galileo System Verification and Qualification part of the associated G1 and G2 System Engineering Technical Assistance (SETA) contracts including navigation related testing;
- Contributing to the coordination of the Galileo G1 and G2 System Verification and Qualification activities with EUSPA and the Galileo Service Operator in the relevant change control boards and planning meetings;
- Contributing to the definition, preparation and execution of Galileo G1 and G2 Ground Segment Verification and Qualification activities including the navigation related elements and ensuring that the system activities are aligned and coordinated;
- Following up system non-conformances in the Non-conformance Review Boards (NRB), ensuring their resolution as quickly as possible and maintaining the overall Galileo qualification status;
- Providing support for the preparation of the System Qualification status by reviewing design changes, new developments and changes outside the system requirements and assessing their impact on System Qualification;
- Contributing to the definition of the system tools including test user receiver and tools for navigation performance required to support system qualification and validation activities and coordinating their deployment and use for System AIV;
- Coordinating with all project disciplines, including Ground Segment, Space Segment, Product Assurance and Safety and Project Control.
- Participating in periodic meetings with the parent section, contributing to the transfer of technical knowledge and lessons learned across the Agency.
In the execution of your tasks you will cooperate closely with the G2G System Engineering Service Unit in the Galileo Second Generation Project Office, for the sake of establishment of the end-to-end System Integration Verification and Qualification plan of activities (One SIVQ Roadmap).

A master's degree in physics, electrical or aerospace engineering or a related field is required for this post
Additional requirements
At least five years of experience in system-level testing, integration and deployments, including the organisation of the related test campaigns.
Good knowledge of large-scale distributed ground segment infrastructure.
Knowledge of GNSS technology and infrastructure would be considered an asset.
Candidate should be able to demonstrate that you can handle pressure and conflict as may occur in a project team. You should be result-oriented, able to set priorities, and capable of presenting practical solutions both verbally and in writing.
Candidate must be prepared to travel on a regular basis, as many of your activities will take place on operational sites or at the AIV factories.
Candidate must be eligible for security clearance by your national security administration.
