5 Steps to get a job in the United Nations

Mission and objectivesUNICRI is a United Nations entity established in 1968 and mandate to assist intergovernmental, governmental and non-governmental organizations in formulating and implementing improved policies in the field of crime prevention and criminal justice. The Institute strongly emphasizes action-oriented analysis and integrated technical assistance. The current priorities are justice reform, financial and emerging crimes and security governance. UNICRI, as part of the European Unionโ€™s (EU) CBRN Risk Mitigation Centres of Excellence (CoE) Initiative, has leveraged the expertise outlined in the Prosecutors Guide on Chemical and Biological (CB) Crimes and the Prosecutors Guide on Radiological and Nuclear (RN) Crimes to craft a comprehensive capacity-building and training package. This initiative is designed to enhance investigative, prosecutorial, and adjudicative capabilities within the realm of CBRN crimes.

ContextWe are looking for dedicated Online Volunteers to support the implementation of the Pilot Project on Strengthening CBRN Investigation, Prosecution, and Adjudication (IPA) Capabilities. The project is part of the capacity-building and training package aimed at providing prosecutors, investigators, law enforcement, and judicial authorities with guidance to support the successful investigation, prosecution, and adjudication of incidents involving the deliberate acquisition, stockpiling, production, transfer, use, or misuse of CBRN materials. The deliverables produced by the Online Volunteers will be part of the EU CBRN CoE and UNICRI's Project on Strengthening the CBRN Investigation, Prosecution and Adjudication (IPA).

Task DescriptionSpecifically, Online Volunteers will assist in the following tasks: 1. Draft project proposals for various donors, based on the existing training activities โ€” approximately 3 to 4 proposals over the course of the assignment. 2. Support the fine-tuning of training materials, including 2 to 3 practical scenarios, presentations, and around 20 pages (A4) of diverse supporting materials for the training sessions. 3. Assist in the preparation of outreach content, such as 5 to 6 articles for websites, based on updates from ongoing project activities over a 3-month period. Selected Online Volunteers will work closely with the UNICRI Team under the supervision of the Regional Coordinator, contributing to meaningful and impactful work in the field of CBRN security and justice. The expected start date of the collaboration is 23 June 2025.
