UNOPS Horn of Africa Multi-Country Office is recruiting for a Finance Intern based in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
Established in 2009, the Horn of Africa Multi-country Office (HAMCO) currently operates an established Operations Centre in Addis Ababa, overseeing a portfolio of engagements across four countries in the Horn of Africa: Ethiopia, Djibouti, Sudan, and South Sudan. HAMCO focuses on providing services in Infrastructure, Procurement, Project Management, HR and Transactional Services, and Fund Management, across sectors such as Health, Education, Agriculture, and Resilient Infrastructure, among others.
Our goal is to support countries in need, assist communities, and empower our partners by delivering on our mandate in infrastructure, procurement, and project management throughout the Horn of Africa.
The internship is a learning and working opportunity aimed at recent graduates. The Finance Intern will assist the Finance team and provide support to the UNOPS Horn of Africa Multi-Country Office. The intern will gain practical experience and exposure to a professional environment that supports their personal and professional development.
Functional Responsibilities
The Finance Intern will provide support to the Finance Unit in carrying out the following tasks and functions under the supervision of the Finance Senior Officer. Summary of key functions:
Treasury and payments functions
Accounting and administrative support
Financial reporting and control
Facilitation of knowledge building and knowledge sharing
Support provided in achieving the following results:
Proper filing of financial documentation.
Assisting in the preparation of payments.
Reviewing payment requests by checking supporting documentation and verifying compliance with internal procedures.
Preparing project financial reports.
Assisting with VAT refund claims and follow-up.
Assisting in budget preparation.
Performing other duties as assigned by the Finance Senior Officer
Education
To qualify, the candidate must be currently enrolled in a university degree program or have graduated within the last three years at the time of application. Preferably, the candidate is studying or has completed studies in Accounting or Finance.
Experience
Applicants are not required to have professional work experience.
Knowledge of the usage of Google Suite applications is an added advantage.
Language
Fluency in reading, writing and and oral English is required.
Knowledge of another UN official language is an asset
Computer Literacy
Knowledge & usage of Google suite applications is an asset.
