5 Steps to get a job in the United Nations

The International Water Management Institute (IWMI), a CGIAR Research Center, is seeking applications from enthusiastic students who are looking to gain professional experience in the field of finance. The internship will be based at IWMI\u2019s headquarters in Colombo, Sri Lanka.

Scope of Internship

During the internship period, the selected candidate will assist the team in the finance department of IWMI. The intern will gain a broad understanding of the accounting procedures and processes in an international organization; have an opportunity to work with an enterprise resource planning (ERP) accounting system (SAP); and be able to interact with staff at IWMI\u2019s headquarters and its regional offices. The intern will also gain an insight into working with people from different countries and cultures.

IWMI is an Executive Level (non-public sector) Training Organization approved by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Sri Lanka (CA Sri Lanka).

The intern will assist in the following areas:

\u2022 Perform MIRO for supplier invoices and arrange payments.

\u2022 Prepare monthly cashflow statements.

\u2022 Prepare fund transfer letters for local and foreign supplier invoices.

\u2022 Arrange Journal Vouchers (JVs) for manual expense claims, salaries as well as monthly water, telephone and electricity bills for HQ.

\u2022 Arrange online payments and cheque payments for suppliers.

\u2022 Update bank charges and interest income entries of the corresponding bank accounts in SAP according to the bank statements.

\u2022 Provide support in preparing local and foreign bank reconciliation statements.

\u2022 Update the system by entering payment vouchers for bank transfers in LKR, USD and EUR.

\u2022 Enter currency conversion receipts among HQ bank accounts into the system.

\u2022 Analyze vendor account balance and prepare vendor reconciliations.

\u2022 Pass exchange JVs for clearance of vendor codes (FC STONE).

\u2022 Prepare and upload monthly JVs for house rent of expatriate staff).

\u2022 Enter monthly telephone bills of staff members.

\u2022 Help to prepare supporting information for the annual audit.

\u2022 Document and maintain complete and accurate supporting information for all financial transactions.

Requirements

\u2022 Registered with, or part-qualified students of, CA Sri Lanka/Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA)/Association of Accounting Technicians of Sri Lanka (AAT).

\u2022 Undergraduates or graduates specializing in the fields of Commerce/Business Administration/Finance/Accounting.

\u2022 Excellent written and oral communication skills in English.

\u2022 Ability to maintain information in a database in a methodical and objective manner.

\u2022 Ability to prepare and maintain reconciliations.

\u2022 Proficiency in using Microsoft Office software (specifically Excel and Word).

\u2022 Experience in using accounting software (SAP) and enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems would be an advantage.

\u2022 Self-motivated and strong teamwork skills.

\u2022 Integrity is of utmost importance.

Benefits

IWMI will provide a monthly stipend to the selected candidate during the internship period.

The duration of the initial internship contract will be for 6 months with the possibility of extension for another 6 months based on performance, requirements of IWMI and the availability of funds. This is a nationally recruited internship and only Sri Lankans are eligible to apply.
