Since conflict erupted in Sudan in April 2023 the country has endured a comprehensive collapse. And with no meaningful prospects for peace in sight, it sits on the precipice of unprecedented crisis, fragmentation, and state failure. Sudan is now the worldโs largest displacement crisis in the world, with over 10.7 million people internally displaced, and over 2 million fleeing across its borders. Sudan is also the worldโs largest hunger crisis. About 25.6 million people โ over half the population in Sudan โ face acute hunger, including more than 755,000 people on the brink of famine.ย
NRCโs programme has grown in response, becoming one of the two largest in the region.ย It has a budget of $50 million and employs 300ย staff managed from five Area Offices that covers operations across all the States in Sudan

The position will provide technical supervision and support to all the area offices in Darfur i-e, Geneina, Nyala and Jabal Marra.
Job Purpose:
Provide financial management expertise to the area offices in Darfur in close collaboration with the country office finance team. Required to travel extensively within the region, building capacity of the area office finance teams, backstopping for the finance coordinators in the area offices in their absence, and provide additional capacity to the country office finance team during seasons of additional and increased workload.
Specific Responsibilities:
- Financial compliance, monitoring and control โ work closely with area managers and area office finance teams to ensure oversight to budgeting, accounting, month end and year end procedures, auditing or other financial processes as per the country finance manual
- Ensure that financial management and finance training is conducted for finance and non-finance staff throughout the region on NRC budget design and reporting requirements, donor specific budgeting and reporting requirements and financial analysis
- Work with Darfur area offices management teams to address issues identified as areas of risk related to financial management
- Produce BVA reports and highlight deviations and recommend corrective actionsย
- Advise and train Darfur area offices management and budget holders on budgeting and reporting, financial analysis and reports
- Put in place measures to address the performance gaps through training for both finance and non-finance staffย
- Support with the roll-out and implementation of financial tools and standardsย
- Ensure that best practices are identified, documented and disseminatedย ย ย

- Minimum 5 years of experience in financial management or similar positions in a humanitarian/recovery context
