Org. Setting and ReportingThis position is in the Remote Security Operations Center (RSOC) of the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) with the duty station in Kabul. The Field Security Radio Operator reports to the Country Security Operations Center (CSOC) Supervisor. ResponsibilitiesWithin delegated authority, the Field Security Radio Operator at this level may be responsible for the following duties: โข Conducts radio checks with all Security Guards on duty daily. โข Conducts radio checks with all International Security Officers at designated hours daily (including weekends and holidays). โข Conducts radio checks with all International Staff and Re-locatable National Staff, including UN Agencies and Visitors, at designated hours daily. โข Monitors the various radio channels and report all security incidents to the CSOC Supervisor. โข Assists in broadcasts all security related information to the mission Staff Members via the various radio channels as directed by the CSOC Supervisor. โข Provides necessary assistance to all UN staff and staff of other UN agencies who may need security assistance through radio channels, telephone or other means of communication. โข Advises all radio users who stay to the security channel with matters not related to security to switch to the proper channel. โข Responds to all telephone calls coming into the radio room and directs the person to the appropriate section. โข Maintains control of all spare keys to mission offices. Register the withdrawal and return of all keys in the key register logbook. Maintain the key control register. โข Assists in recording and maintaining all activities occurring during his/her shifts. โข Assists in maintaining an updated list of all emergency contact numbers. โข Assists in maintaining the telephone numbers and call signs of all senior security personnel, International and National Staff including UN Agencies and Visitors. โข Assists in maintaining and familiarizing with the weekly/monthly duty rosters for the various sections within the mission. โข Maintains all equipment assigned to the RSOC โข Report any damage to any equipment assigned to the radio room and arrange for the repairs of such equipment. โข Ensure the full functionality of Security Communication Equipment in the RSOC. โข Assists with the collection and analysis of data as well as preparation of data presentations and reports for information sharing, responding to queries, knowledge management, planning and decision making. โข Assists with visualizations and updating information material such as web pages or brochures. โข Perform other operational duties as directed by the Supervisor. First level university degree or higher in Communications, Military or Police is desirable. Job - Specific QualificationNot available. Work ExperienceWith high school certificate three (03) years of experience in security. Good knowledge of the city, local roads and conditions where the office is located. Knowledge of security rules, regulations, and procedures of UN including fire safety and first aid procedures, as well as standards security and safety procedures is required. With first level relevant university degree minimum one (1) year of relevant experience in security. Good knowledge of the city, local roads and conditions where the office is located. Demonstrated knowledge in operating and maintaining High Frequency (HF), Ultra High Frequency (UHF), and Very High Frequency (VHF) radio equipment are desirable skills, particularly in field security or mission-critical environments. LanguagesEnglish and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this job opening, English is required. Either Dari or Pashto is desirable.
