External Relations Internship (paid)

WE ARE NOW ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS FOR the spring 2024 external relations INTERNship.

The International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis (IIASA) is currently accepting applications for its 2024 External Relations Internship. This internship is a highly competitive three-month program that runs from April to June 2024, with the aim of providing early-career opportunities in the area of external relations. Travel expenses to and from Austria and the intern's home country will be covered at the commencement and conclusion of the internship. Additionally, a modest stipend will be provided to assist with living expenses throughout the three-month period.

The external relations intern will gain experience in developing engagements between IIASA, its National and Regional Member Organizations and their communities, policymakers, alumni, and other stakeholders. The successful candidate will work in the IIASA Communications and External Relations Department, assisting the Alumni and Network Officer, the External Relations Officer, and the Science Diplomacy Officer with a variety of tasks. This includes support of events, preparation of engagement reports, facilitation of activities with external partners, creation of information packs, organization of visits, as well as performing other tasks assigned by the supervisor.

eligibility

A bachelor's or equivalent degree in political science, international relations, public relations, or another relevant area, and/or current students or graduates of an international relations or science-policy program. Applicants from all countries are welcome, but IIASA gives priority to citizens or residents of countries in which IIASA has a Member Organization. We encourage applications from developing countries.

QUALIFICATIONS

First-hand experience in external relations in an international organization or national organization with an international focus, preferably dealing with research. Written and oral fluency in English and proven ability to understand complex scientific research. Experience with or interest in international relations, political science, sociology, and the science-policy-society interface.

Appointment terms:

The 2024 external relations internship runs from 1 April to 30 June 2024, and the selected candidate will be expected to be at the IIASA premises in Laxenburg, Austria for the full period.

IIASA does not provide housing or additional funding for housing. External relations interns do not qualify for relocation or other allowances. The cost of travel from the home country to and from the institute will be covered by IIASA.

WE OFFER:

A monthly salary based on an annual gross salary of EUR 17,604.00, which is exempt from income tax in Austria.
