Organizational Context:
With its 192 member countries, the Universal Postal Union (UPU), a specialized agency of the United Nations, is the primary forum for cooperation between postal sector players. It helps to ensure a truly universal network of up-to-date products and services. Main duties:
General mission: translate internal and official IB / UPU texts and correspondences sent by postal authorities form the Arabic Region.

- Translate texts from French or English to Arabic and from Arabic to French or English, seeking the advice of the Head of STAR or other translators in the team where necessary
- Carry out the necessary research that the translation requires
- Provide formal or informal drafting advice to the authors of texts
- Contribute to the development of specialized terminology for the UPU
- Participate in testing of new language-related tools or products
- As required, participate in other tasks covered by the service QUALIFICATION AND SKILLS REQUIRED Education:
Bachelor's degree in translation or modern languages from a recognized institution Experience:
Minimum of two years' experience as a translator in an international organization or similar (public administration, institutions, etc.) Technical knowledge:
1. Familiarity with computer-assisted translation tools (Trados or equivalent) and document management tools (Pegasus or equivalent)
2. Good practical terminological research skills using the Internet or other sources
3. Solid knowledge of Office tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
4. Knowledge of database tools Skills and abilities / competencies:
1. Ability to work independently
2. Sense of rigour
3. Ability to work under stress
4. Customer focus
5. Intellectual curiosity
6. Team spirit Language skills:
Arabic mother tongue

Proficiency in French and English is required Additional Information:
French is the official language of the UPU. English and French are the working languages of the UPU International Bureau.

Priority shall be given for an internal promotion.

Candidates might be considered for other similar posts (for a period not exceeding one year).

Post adjustment: 90 % of the above figure(s). This percentage is to be considered as indicative since variations may occur each month either upwards or downwards due to currency exchange rate fluctuations or inflation. The conditions of service are governed by the Staff Regulations and Rules of the International Bureau of the Universal Postal Union.
