Contract: 10 months

Weekly work hours: 36.00

Monthly allowance: โ‚ฌ 1370 net per month + โ‚ฌ 75 working from home allowance

Oxfam International EU Advocacy Office is seeking an enthusiastic and creative intern to support the work of its EU Policy Advisors working on climate, food and economic justice. The purpose of this post is to provide the intern with an opportunity to strengthen her/his/their analytical and advocacy skills, as well as knowledge of the EU institutions and policy-making processes, through hands on experience working with the advocacy team of a leading international NGO. The intern will assist in the implementation of strategies and tactics to influence the EU on its policies regarding climate, agriculture and food systems, and economic justice.

Key responsibilities

Monitor EU policy-making and legislative processes in the areas of corporate accountability, agriculture and food systems, and climate. Support the work of Oxfamโ€™s EU Policy Advisors, including by conducting background research, drafting notes and letters, preparing memos and briefings. Assist in securing meetings with EU decision-makers, attend internal Oxfam meetings as well as external events and meetings with EU policy makers, other stakeholders and allied organizations. Take responsibility for at least one longer term project linked to Oxfamโ€™s advocacy objectives in one of the above-mentioned policy areas. Provide support to the EU advocacy team for organizing events and for tasks related to team coordination.

Key requirements

Affinity with the values, aims and objectives of Oxfam, supporting our vision of an equal and just world without poverty. Keen interest in EU affairs and in one or more of the following policy areas: corporate accountability, agriculture and food systems, and climate. Understanding of the essentials of EU decision-making processes. Education: (working towards) a higher education degree in a relevant field such as international development, European affairs, economics, law, political science or international relations. Fluency in written and spoken English is essential. Knowledge of other languages, in particular French, Spanish and Eastern European languages, is an advantage. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Strong analytical skills. Ability to work within a team and with an international network. A quick learner with a positive attitude and pro-active approach. Ability to deal with multiple priorities, prioritize and manage time effectively in a busy office environment.
