Work LocationAmman Expected duration3 Months with possibility to extend to 11 months Full Time Intenship Duties and ResponsibilitiesThe intern will be supervised by and support the daily work of the Chief of Ethics. Tasks include: - Assist in the research and drafting of information and awareness raising materials, relating to the new PD on outside and political activities, bystander and protection against retaliation policies and guidance. - Support the Ethics Office with the Workshop for Ethics and PSEA Focal Points, updating and developing handouts, presentations and other assistance as deemed necessary. - Support the coordination of the Ethics Focal Points network - Support the update of the UNRWA Ethics Office website (external and internal) - Coordinate the review and comments by relevant Departments on the draft guidance note - Assist in the development and/or review of other Ethics Office informational or awareness raising materials - Assist in conducting relevant research and fact-finding in relation to issues of concern for the Ethics Office - Assist in conducting preliminary reviews and analysis of Protection against Retaliation complaints - Provide debriefing and hand-over notes to Chief of Ethics at the end of the internship - Perform other duties as required by the Office Qualifications/special skillsAt least a Bachelorโ€™s Degree in Law or equivalent Applicants are not required to have professional work experience, although prior experience in ethical issues will be an advantage. DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS - Experience or demonstrated strong interest in ethical issues and law or related fields - Experience or demonstrated ability in legal research and analysis and drafting legal opinions - Experience in research, drafting and summarizing reports, documents, and briefing notes - Experience or demonstrated interpersonal skills - Excellent drafting, translation and communication skills - Ability to work in a multicultural team - Ability in using Excel, PowerPoint, Design tools and software - Flexibility and adaptability COMPETENCIES UN Core Values of Integrity, Professionalism and Respect for Diversity, and Core Competencies of Communication, Working with People and Drive for Results apply by default. - Excellent analytical and writing skills in English - Management skills including work planning - Communication and facilitation skills - Ability to work independently LanguagesExcellent command of English is required, Arabic is desirable Additional InformationBackground about the Ethics Office in UNRWA: Located in UNRWA Headquarters, Amman Jordan, the Ethics Office was established in 2009 to assist the Commissioner-General in nurturing a culture of ethics, integrity and accountability, and thereby enhance the trust in, and the credibility of, UNRWA, both internally and externally. The UNRWA Ethics Office has the following key responsibilities: - Developing standards, training and education on ethical issues in order to ensure that there is a uniform and consistent application of ethics-related issues within the United Nations system - Providing advice and support to management to ensure that Agency's rules, policies, procedures and practices reinforce and promote the standards of integrity called for under the Charter of the United Nations - Providing confidential advice and guidance to staff on ethical issues - Serving as a focal point for raising staff awareness within the Agency on ethical standards and expected behaviour within the context of oversight as well as human resources development policies, strategies and programmes - Undertaking the responsibilities assigned to the Ethics Office under the Agency's policy for the protection of staff against retaliation for reporting misconduct and for cooperating with duly authorized audits or investigations - Acting as focal point for the Agency's participation in the UN Financial Disclosure Programme - Administering the Area Staff Declaration of Interest Programme - Undertaking the responsibilities of Agency-wide Coordinator under the Agency's policies for preventing and responding to Prohibited Conduct (Discrimination, Harassment โ€“ including Sexual Harassment โ€“ and Abuse of Power) and Sexual Exploitation and Abuse Intern Specific textInterns are not financially remunerated by the United Nations.
