Description

Reporting to the Head of the Enterprise Section, you will be responsible for defining and implementing projects supporting the development of innovative security-related applications involving EO data, primary new synthetic aperture radar, mid/thermal infrared or hyperspectral data streams. This will include the integration of EO data streams with non-EO data including IoT sensor networks and open source intelligence as well as the integration of leading edge complementary capabilities including new inter-satellite linkage (ISL) capabilities, in-orbit processing and also relevant AI-based processing, data fusion and inference technologies.

You will manage innovative developments to build EO applications-based industrial competence in the context of ESA programmes, particularly for activities in Block 4 (Science for Society) of the ESA FutureEO Programme and for the Civil Security from Space programme, which is a joint initiative between the Directorates of Earth Observation Programmes and of Connectivity and Secure Communications. Support is also envisaged for additional development activities under the ESA โ€œRapid and Resilient Crisis Response Accelerator (R3)โ€ initiative.

Duties

You will be responsible for building increased use of civilian EO capabilities in all security domains consistent with the ESA Convention with a particular focus on the opportunities for the commercial space sector in Europe. This will initially include domains such as law enforcement, protection of civilians, support to managing crisis onset and mitigation, and enhanced civil/military cooperation in Earth observation-related domains.
