Position Description RTI is seeking candidates for Environmental Compliance Assistant on the Feed the Future Ethiopia Transforming Agriculture Activity. The Environmental Compliance Assistant supports the Feed the Future Ethiopia Transforming Agriculture activity to implement mandatory environmental assessments, environmental compliance monitoring, and reporting for the project. Under the supervision of the Environmental Compliance Manager, the Assistant will ensure that the activity and its partners adhere to USAID, RTI and local environmental procedures. What You'll Do Your primary responsibilities will include but not be limited to: Supports the preparation of environmental description assessment including defining environmental site description data requirements Supports environmental review process and collects environmental description information around the investment premises and off-site locations of activity partners Support the preparation of Environmental Review Report (ERR) for partners Undertakes site visits to investment sites, conducts environmental audits, and provides technical support to implementers on the implementation of mitigation measures defined in the ERR for Grants. Investigates partners environmental footprints such as waste disposal; safety, hygiene & sanitation; and agrochemicals use practices. Tracks deadlines for and supports the preparation of monitoring reports from field observations based on USAID Environmental Mitigation and Monitoring Reporting (EMMR) template. Contributes to ongoing activity reports and deliverables related to environmental mitigation and monitoring. Assists in providing in-country environmental training for project and partners who require additional capacity building regarding environmental compliance. Assists national and regional project team members to ensure proper implementation of environmental mitigation and monitoring and other conditions set by USAID. Performs additional duties as assigned. What You'll Need Masterโs degree or Bachelorโs Degree and 1 year of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience. Prior experience working on the Feed the Future Ethiopia Transforming Agriculture activity in a similar capacity preferred. Key Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Experience developing environmental procedures and guidelines is strongly desirable Understanding of, and ability to successfully navigate USAID and Ethiopian environmental rules and regulations preferred Knowledge of agriculture (crop and livestock) and the potential environmental risks associated with the sector Excellent knowledge Microsoft Office, including MS Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel Professional fluency in English (both spoken and written) and strong command of Amharic is required, additional local language is a plus. Ability to multi-task Ability to work independently and in a team Attention to detail and accuracy Ability to travel extensively in rural Ethiopia
