Introduction :

Description of the Assignment:

Under the supervision of the Director of the Sustainable Energy Hub, the Specialist will be responsible for the following activities:

1. Strategy Development and Implementation

o Lead the development of innovative and effective policies and strategies to advance just energy transition.

o Establish frameworks for mobilizing public and private investments for sustainable energy projects.

o Conduct policy analysis and research to support evidence-based policymaking.

o Identify opportunities to integrate social equity, human rights, and gender considerations into energy transition and RE finance initiatives.

o Support the alignment of regional energy transition and investment frameworks with sustainable development goals and climate targets.

2. Technical Expertise and Capacity Building

o Provide technical guidance and support to UNDP country offices and partners on just energy transition and financing mechanism of the transition.

o Conduct assessments and analysis to identify barriers and opportunities for advancing inclusive energy transitions.

o Develop training materials and facilitate capacity building workshops on climate finance mechanisms and strategies for promoting social inclusion and equity.

3. Policy Analysis, Research, and Knowledge Management

o Conduct market assessments to identify barriers and opportunities for sustainable energy market development in emerging markets.

o Identify innovative approaches and solutions for addressing social, economic, and environmental challenges associated with energy transitions.

o Conduct in-depth research on diverse key energy related concepts and topics (energy access, energy transition, and energy finance), policies, regulations, and trends.

o Analyze data, research findings, and case studies to provide insights and recommendations for policy improvements aligning with UNDP standards.

o Regularly write and contribute articles on sustainable energy policies, market developments, financing mechanisms, and innovative technologies for the UNDP Sustainable Energy Hub bulletin.

o Catalogue and help to feature success stories, case studies, and lessons learned from UNDP-supported sustainable energy projects and initiatives globally.

4. Sustainable Energy Academy

o Develop content for interactive e-learning modules and review and update the modules aligning with critical review from academic partners.

o Facilitate the launch of the Sustainable Energy Academy’s online platform and the related material for coordinating the piloting of the course.

o Support the Academy’s launch including in the first phases of implementation through pilot with UNDP Country Offices.

Period of assignment/services: up to 250 working days over the course of 12 months
