About this position
We are looking for a dedicated, experienced, and innovative Economic Research and Impact Evaluation Consultant to join our team. The consultant will work in Washington DC with the Transport Division (TSP) team. The Consultant will (i) provide support to the design and implementation of impact evaluations of transport operations; (ii) participate in the design and implementation of research activities related to TSP operations in the region; (iii) develop working papers and reports related to IDB activities in transportation; (iv) support data collection to enhance economic and technical analyses required by TSP; and (v) contribute in a range of technical and sector topics.
You will work with the knowledge team of TSP, within the Infrastructure and Energy Department. The knowledge team is responsible for conducting applied research activities to help close knowledge gaps in the area of transportation Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC). Research topics are related to the Division's strategic activities, including mobility, logistics, infrastructure, technology, and climate change. In addition, the team gathers and analyzes data, and generates reports that provide input to strategic, corporate, and operational TSP activities. A key area of work is designing and implementing impact evaluations for IDB transport projects, with particular focus on public transportation.
What youโll do:
The selected candidates will:
- Coordinate and participate in the design, implementation, analysis and reporting of impact evaluations related to IDB projects in transportation. Activities may include:
- Design questionnaires, define sampling frameworks, train enumerators, and coordinate with executing agencies and data collection firms before and during data collection activities.
- Carry out econometric and statistical analysis, as required, related to impact evaluation and studies.
- Assist and participate in the writing of different products drafts, as required.
- Conduct literature reviews; identify appropriate research methods; implement empirical strategies and write working papers and reports that address the research questions included in the TSP research agenda.
- Gather and analyze data, and generate reports to provide input to strategic, corporate and operational TSP activities.
- Oversee and participate in the dissemination of results of different analytic products, including preparation of presentations, executive summaries, or other materials, as required.
- Participate in projects missions to Latin American and Caribbean (LAC) countries, when needed, to gather data and disseminate studies.
- Originate, participate in and oversee specialized analytic and research papers on areas of strategic importance for TSP.
- Maintain an active research agenda.
What you'll need
- Education: Masterโs degree in Economics, Statistics, Engineering, Public Policy or related field.
- Experience: At least five years of relevant professional and academic experience in program evaluation, applied economics and development economics, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Languages: Proficiency in Spanish and English, spoken and written, is required. Additional knowledge of French and Portuguese is preferable.

- Citizenship: You are a citizen of one of our 48-member countries.
- Consanguinity: You have no family members (up to the fourth degree of consanguinity and second degree of affinity, including spouse) working at the IDB, IDB Invest, or IDB Lab.
