The Economic Analyst will be responsible for assessing foreign economic trade, and financial activities that may influence the security interests of the CARICOM Member States and their strategic partners.

Research, compile, analyse, interpret, and prepare data on regional and global economic conditions. Review and analyse economic data to prepare reports detailing results of research conducted. Identify economic indicators in respect to trends of the regional economies. Develop economic forecasts utilising econometric techniques. Assess illicit financial activities, including terrorist and criminal networks, money laundering, regional and foreign corruption and irregular migration. Monitor the changes in international and regional/national laws, policies and proposals, including the national budgets and assess economic and social impact on regional and /or international security. Review economic data, such as interest rates, unemployment rates, inflation rates, and tax rates, to assess current regional conditions. Communicate data in the form of presentations, technical reports, and non-technical reports. Undertakes other duties which may arise or as may be delegated from time to time.

QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS, AND EXPERIENCE

A Bachelorโ€™s degree in Economics, Finance or closely related field in Social Sciences from a recognized institution. A Post Graduate degree will be considered an asset. A minimum of three (3) years of related work experience, training. Knowledge of the principles and practices of economic analysis; including econometrics and forecasting. Knowledge of micro and macro-economic theory, economic research and survey sampling techniques. Knowledge of graphic and narrative techniques for the presentation of data. Knowledge of mathematics and statistical theory. Knowledge of economic indicators relative to regional and international economic trends. Ability to conduct research studies. Strong verbal and presentation skills Ability to gather and analyse economic data and present findings. A clear understanding of the Regional Crime and Security Architecture will be an asset. A clear knowledge and understanding of best practices in research methodologies. Considerable knowledge of, and ability to use, Microsoft Office Suite and other statistical applications e.g., quantitative frequency distribution, regression analysis as well as chart applications such as I2, link analysis, commodity flow, time flow and telephone toll to create association matrices will be an asset. Ability to multi-task, respond to ad hoc requests and operate in a voluminous, fast paced environment. Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality.

LOCATION

This position will be based at IMPACSโ€™ sub-agency, the RIFC located in Trinidad and Tobago.
