Background

The UNDP Country Office administers and manages common premises and shared services on behalf of the co-located UN agencies, funds, and programs. The Common Premises Unit is established to ensure the efficient, secure, and cost-effective management of all common premises, assets, and services. The unit's objective is to provide high-quality support services to all Participating Agencies, enabling them to focus on their core mandatesย 

Under the overall guidance and direct supervision of the Administrative and Logistics Analyst in Baghdad, with matrix reporting to the CP Operations Manager, the Driver provides reliable and safe driving services ensuring high accuracy of work. The Driver demonstrates a client-oriented approach, high sense of responsibility, courtesy, tact and the ability to work with people of different national and cultural backgrounds.

The Driver provides driving services to Country Office management, operations and programme staff, consultants and experts, UN agencies funds and programs, and UN staff on mission.

Duties and Responsibilities

Provide reliable and secure driving services using office vehicle for Country Office to programmes and operations staff, experts and consultants, and UN officials and visitors.

Transport authorized personnel. ย  Deliver and collect mail and documents; and perform other messenger responsibilities. Meet official personnel and visitors at the airport and assist with visa and customs formalities arrangement when required.

Ensure cost-saving through proper use and day-to-day maintenance of the assigned office vehicle.

Maintain accurate daily vehicle logs. Provide inputs to preparation of the vehicle maintenance plans and reports.ย  Make timely minor repairs and/or arrange for major repairs Ensure timely changes of oil, check of tires, brakes, car washing, etc.

Ensure availability in the assigned vehicle of all the required documents, supplies and necessary spare parts.

Keep current in vehicle documents such as vehicle insurance, vehicle logs, office directory, and map of the city/country.ย  Ensure vehicle first aid kit is adequately stocked with standard medical supplies. Take all immediate actions required by rules, regulations, and laws in case of involvement in accidents. Assist with administrative tasks such as ย pouch, procurement, workshops, and other administrative tasks.

Perform other duties within incumbentโ€™s functional profile as assigned and deemed necessary for the efficient functioning of the office and Organization.

Institutional Arrangement

The driver works under the overall guidance and direct supervision of the Administrative and Logistics Analyst โ€“ Head of Admin Unit, with matrix reporting to the CP Operations Manager.

Required Skills and Experience

Education:

Secondary Education with a valid driverโ€™s license is required. Minimum of 3 years (with high school diploma) of relevant work experience as a driver with a safe driving record is required.ย 

Experience:

Knowledge of driving regulations, rules and laws as well as skills in minor vehicle repair and maintenance. Experience in the basic use of computers and relevant office software packages (MS Word, Excel, etc.) and ability to use web-based management and electronic log, file and/or scheduling systems. Relevant experience with UN/UNDP or an international organization is desirable. Demonstrated ability to thrive within a complex multicultural and multinational environment strongly preferred. Experience in driving a variety of makes and models of vehicles ย - heavy and light passenger vehicles is desirable. Proven knowledge of driving regulations, rules and laws as well as skills in minor vehicle repair and maintenance is desirable. Knowledge of protocols and security requirements is an advantage. Previous training and experience as a Close Protection/Personal Security Team Driver would be an asset. Familiarity with relevant PSD communication equipment, computer applications is an advantage.

Required Language

Good command of English language is required. Fluency in Arabic is required. Knowledge of Kurdish in desired.ย
