Work LocationAddis Ababa Expected duration9 months Duties and ResponsibilitiesDuties and Responsibilities: Under the supervision of the civil works Supervisor (Facilities Management Assistant), the incumbent is required to perform the following: Be responsible, for the day to day operation of the Manitou, for all planning, maintenance, servicing and transportation requirements. And Complete any other duties, such as driving light vehicles , trucks from time to time ( with appropriate licenses held), or anything else that may be considered appropriate by the Supervisor • Operate Manitou MT-X 1440 SLT (Tele handler-4.5 ton capacity) and similar type special machinery equipment such as Dampers, electrical forklifts, stock-chasers, etc. in a safe and professional manner • Maintain best practice while operating within recommended guidelines and procedures as per Manufacturer’s manual and general practice of the trade. • Follow up and initiate execution of scheduled and regular service and brake down maintenance of the special equipment machinery under operation in the UNECA compound and keep track record of operational condition of the machinery especially of the MT-X 1440 SLT. • Address and keep all the Health & Safety requirements as stipulated in the general practice of operating such machinery and of the manufacturer’s strict safety guide lines during all the times of operating the machinery and also of during parking of these machinery in an appropriate manner. • Make sure Manitou-MT-X 1440 SLT is maintained, cleaned and is ready at all material time for operation in terms of fuel availability and other consumables that are required for the healthy operation of the machine as per manufacturer’s recommendations. • Adhere to all road safety requirements of machinery to operate the Manitou-MT-X 1440 outside of the UNECA compound when occasionally required.(Operator must have road authority license while operating the machinery at all times.) • Carry out additional tasks like driving light vehicles or trucks for the transport of authorized personnel and goods. • Takes care of the day-to-day maintenance of the assigned vehicles, check oil, water, battery, brakes, tires, etc.; perform minor repairs and arranges for other repairs and ensures that vehicle is kept clean. • Logs fuel consumption, maintenance etc. • Ensures that the steps required by rules and regulations are taken in case of accident. • Applies good judgment in the context of assignments given. • Demonstrates initiative and is proactive in addressing potential problems during the day to day activities. • Capable of working in a team and proactive team player • Performs other duties as assigned. Experience Required: • Proven knowledge and experience in the operation of telehandlers most preferably in operation of Manitou-MT-X 1440 or similar machinery of Manitou brand. • Proven experience in handling various accessories of Manitou tele handlers operation and Good understanding of required regular and preventative maintenance of such machinery. • Experience as a driver of light vehicle including vans and other kinds of motorized vehicles with a safe driving record. Special skills most desired: • Proven and updated knowledge of road transport requirements • Previous experience in general construction environment • Communication skills; Ability to communicate in English language (written and verbal) • Proven Strong commitment to Health and Safety • Sound ability to handle information and to follow both verbal and written instructions. • Sound ability to remain calm under pressure. Nature of the work • The work varies from steady work weeks to having to work overtime, evening, weekend and holiday shifts, depending on contractual agreement.
