5 Steps to get a job in the United Nations

Mission and objectivesWHO Collaborating Centres (CCs) are key Member State (MS) institutions that have expertise relevant and essential to WHOโ€™s work. They are distributed globally and represent a tremendous asset for WHO, strengthening Member Statesโ€™ health capacity to support health and well-being development. The fundamental logic is to utilize the inherent expertise in a WHO CC for the benefit of all Member States and their populations, leaving no one behind.

ContextAs part of bi-annual reporting on the use of Behavioural and Cultural Insights (BCI) in the European Region, the BCI Unit has received extensive information from public health authorities in 40 Member States regarding case examples of their work. We seek volunteers to follow up with BCI focal points from these Member States and develop written case studies for each. For inspiration, the BCI Unit has previously published case examples: ยท Behavioural and cultural insights at the WHO Regional Office for Europe: annual progress report 2024 (see pages 5-15) (https://iris.who.int/handle/10665/380648) ยท Applying behavioural and cultural insights to health-related policies, services and communication: case examples (https://iris.who.int/handle/10665/375487) ยท European regional action framework for behavioural and cultural insights for health, 2022โ€“2027 (see pages 33-47) (https://iris.who.int/handle/10665/372664)

Task Descriptionยท Become familiar with the Behavioural and Cultural Insights (BCI) Unitโ€™s work, review existing information provided from countries and cross-categorize all examples according to themes to be provided. ยท Develop case examples, using a standard template provided by the BCI Unit, by following the steps below. 1. Use the information provided in the reporting form from the country to develop a draft case example text, using a simple and short standard template (180-220 words) and indicating where more information is missing. Share with the BCI Unit for review. 2. Contact the country BCI focal point by email, using a draft email text prepared by the BCI Unit, and share the draft text with them, asking them to provide missing information, including reference to published papers and visuals (photographs, relevant charts or graphs). 3. When receiving their response: if and where needed, arrange to share further information by email and video calls. 4. Finalize each case example and share with the BCI Unit for review and feedback. 5. Submit final draft to the country focal point for approval.
