Result of ServiceThe objective of this assignment is to produce a final-colored copy of the ESCWA Stories comic book, volume V, that is ready for layout and publication. Work LocationUN-House ESCWA Expected duration2 Months Duties and ResponsibilitiesBackground The SDG Stories Team was established by the Executive Secretary of ESCWA to help mainstream the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) among students aged 7 to 16 across the Arab region. This is achieved primarily through the development and dissemination of a comic book that presents engaging stories centered on the SDGs. Four volumes of the book have been published in Arabic and English, and ESCWA is currently working on volume V. Against this background, the services of a Creative Illustrator are needed to finalize the illustration of volume V of the โ€œESCWA Storiesโ€ book (in Arabic). The Creative Illustrator will undertake the following tasks: 1- Refine and finalize line art: Clean up the existing sketches by producing high-quality, finalized line drawings (inking) for all comic panels, ensuring consistency in style and character representation. 2- Color all comic panels: Apply base colors, shading, highlights, and visual effects to all finalized line art, in line with the projectโ€™s aesthetic guidelines and age-appropriate visual tone. 3- Render illustrations for depth and impact: Enhance the colored artwork through detailed rendering techniques to convey depth, texture, and atmosphere appropriate to each story's mood and message. 4- Design the cover for volume V: Create a compelling and original cover illustration that reflects the themes and characters of the comic book and aligns with ESCWAโ€™s visual identity guidelines. 5- Incorporate feedback and finalize artwork: Revise and adjust illustrations based on team feedback and conduct a final review to ensure all artwork is consistent, polished, and ready for layout and publication. Qualifications/special skillsA Master's degree or equivalent in illustration and comic books design is required. All candidates must submit a copy of the required educational degree. Incomplete applications will not be reviewed. A minimum of 10 years of experience in illustration and/or comics is required. Familiarity with the UN system and sustainable development agenda is desirable. LanguagesEnglish and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat and Arabic is a working language of ESCWA. For this position, fluency in Arabic and English is required.
