About the Contextย
Cameroon is affected by three complex humanitarian situations: displacement caused by violence in the Lake Chad Basin and in the North-West and South-West regions and the presence of refugees from the Central African Republic (CAR) in the eastern regions. Viciously violent and frequent incursions against civilian populations have been a hallmark of the crisis in the Far North region.ย ย
The 2024 Cameroon Humanitarian Response Plan (HRP) identifies over 450,000 IDPs and 195,000 returnees affected by the on-going violence in the Far North. The socio-political crisis in the North-West and South-West regions has left 583,113 Internal displaced persons and 65 697 refugees in Nigeria. The ongoing conflict in the Central African Republic (CAR) has resulted in an influx of more than 280,000, refugees to the East, Adamawa, and North regions of Cameroonย
NRC began operations in Cameroon in 2017. From our field offices in Bamenda, Batouri, Buea, Kousseri, and Maroua, we deliver Education, Legal Assistance, Shelter, Livelihoods and Food Security, and WASH programming.ย
