Community Partners International (CPI) is a U.S. nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering vulnerable communities in Asia to meet their essential health, humanitarian and development needs. Founded by U.S. doctors in 1998, the organization has grown to serve more than one million people each year. Community Partners International focuses on helping communities affected by conflict, violence, and displacement, in remote and hard-to-reach contexts, and marginalized by poverty and exclusion.

Role Overview

The Coordinator (Strategy) will play a pivotal role in providing strategy and policy guidance to enhance program management and technical quality across the organization. Working closely with the SPL team, the Coordinator will focus on developing strategy and policy documents for the entire organization's programs, focusing on organizational priority areas. The coordinator will report to the Deputy Director (Research and Practice) and work closely with Senior Technical Specialist and Technical Specialist to support both strategy and technical assistance to country programs.

Primary Responsibilities

Development of strategic framework, technical advancement plan and adoption:

  • Lead the development of CPI strategy documents with the inputs from all program teams
  • Gather and synthesize relevant data, lead analyses and develop recommendations around technical initiatives and plans
  • Collaborate with program teams to develop regional project implementation strategies and standard procedures.

Lead in proposal development for program and research grants

  • Lead the coordination among proposal development team members such as key program staff and M&E staff
  • Initiate conceptual framework development and provide inputs to project theory of change as necessary
  • Ensure proposal quality assurance: review of all parts of proposal to ensure consistency and quality

Organizational strategic directions, visions and goals

  • Support CPI leadership in development of organizational strategy, health and development strategies
  • Regularly review the organizational strategic directions and provide inputs to senior leadership team
  • Produce annual report based on secondary data analysis of strategic direction indicators and targets
  • Work closely with M&E team to monitor various elements of organizational strategy cycle

Prioritizing strategic issues

  • Identify key strategic issues by organizing prioritization workshops and discussions with leadership team
  • Track the progress of key strategy areas and share updates regularly

Partnerships, communication and coordination

  • Fosters and maintains cooperative working relationships both internal and external; especially with partner organizations
  • Represent the organization in technical group meetings, partner, donor, and stakeholder meetings.

Learning, research into policy translation

  • Conducts and facilitates research in relevant areas ensuring that such research informs strategy formulations and and corporates policies and practices
  • Support the building of systems for learning (learning ecosystems) for partners and CPI staff

ESSENTIAL SKILLS

  • Master degree holder in health sciences or social sciences. Graduate degree holders with a good track record of multiple years of working experience in the relevant field may be considered in lieu of a master degree.
  • Strong technical knowledge in health thematic areas, development, research and social sciences.
  • At least 3 years of experience in managing health projects or development projects.
  • Ability to produce quality strategic reports and high profile policy reports to various stakeholders in English and Burmese
  • Fluent communication skills in English and Burmese
  • Proven analytical skills and fundamental knowledge on research
  • Excellent coordination and communication skills
  • Self-motivated and ability to work independently, and as part of a team.
  • Highly organized with the ability to meet deadlines.
  • Quick understanding of the local cultural and political context.
