SUMMARY:

The Content and Digital Media Officer is a vital member of the communications team within the External Engagement section of UNHCR’s Regional Bureau for West and Central Africa. This role involves the strategic planning and execution of multimedia content across UNHCR’s regional platforms, including the website, social media, and newsletter, ensuring alignment with UNHCR’s strategic objectives for the region.
Under direct supervision of the Snr Communications Officer, the incumbent plays a pivotal role in the regional communications team, working closely with the videographer and the Graphic Designer.
The incumbent supports country operations where needed by helping to identify compelling stories, produce high-quality content, and enhance social media strategies, including risk mitigation. Additionally, the officer identifies opportunities to leverage regional stories on UNHCR’s global channels and adapts global content for regional use. The incumbent works in an iterative way, testing, analyzing, and learning from results. These efforts are integral to achieving UNHCR’s strategic objectives and amplifying its impact in West and Central Africa.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Strategic Planning

- Maintain an up to date understanding of the key issues affecting the region
- Develop and maintain a cross-media content calendar aligned with strategic priorities and developments to ensure consistent and strategic distribution of content across various platforms.

Multimedia content Creation and Management:

- Script writing: Develop creative scripts and messaging for promotional, educational, and engagement multichannel content, including the regional website and social media platforms.
- Video production: Oversee the entire video production process, from planning and scripting to filming and editing.
- Social Media production: Create and manage engaging content for social media platforms, including creating and scheduling posts.
- Incorporate video elements in web stories, social media publications, and other digital platforms.
- Story telling: Write and edit compelling stories that highlight the experiences of individuals and communities supported by the organization, in collaboration with UNHCR operations and headquarters.

Social Media Management:

- Develop and implement comprehensive and impact driven social media strategies and campaigns that deliver against the the strategic objectives of the RBWCA.
- Support UNHCR’s leadership accounts by providing strategic guidance
- Engage with online audiences, respond to comments and messages, and foster community interactions.
- Monitor and report on social media performance, adjusting strategies as needed for maximum engagement.
- Analyze social media metrics to optimize content strategies and improve performance.

Collaboration and Coordination:

- Collaborate with the regional communications team to ensure consistent messaging and branding across all content.
- Coordinate with UNHCR field staff and HQ to gather accurate and impactful content for storytelling initiatives.
- Ensure all content aligns with UNHCR’s messaging and advocacy goals, maintaining sensitivity to the context and audience.

Capacity Building:

- Build and upskill strong dynamic network of staff leading on social media across the region.
- Ensure staff have access to training

QUALIFICATIONS:

- Proven experience in scriptwriting, content creation, and social media management.
- Strong understanding of social media platforms, tools, and best practices.
- Proficiency in video production tools and software.
- Excellent writing, editing, and communication skills.
- Strong organizational and analytical skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and work both independently and collaboratively.
- Creative mindset with the ability to develop engaging and innovative content.
- Experience in writing and editing stories, preferably in collaboration with international organizations like UNHCR.
- Sensitivity to humanitarian issues and the ability to create content that reflects the dignity and resilience of individuals and communities.
- Experience in developing and managing a cross-media editorial calender to ensure strategic and coordinated content distribution.
- Experience analyzing performance of social media, identifying insights and actions
