Consultant Sustainable Buildings and Construction

Result of ServiceThe senior consultant will facilitate, support and monitor project activities in India. The key outputs include: a. Successful implementation of the Building and Construction roadmap process and development of state-level roadmaps. b. Successful implementation of demonstration projects on sustainable materials c. Knowledge exchange, training and capacity building of stakeholders d. Effective communication and outreach of Building and Construction and Sustainable Cooling in events. Work LocationHome based ( from India) Expected duration8 months Duties and ResponsibilitiesA senior individual consultant with good experience in project management, as well as in buildings, sustainability, and climate change in the South Asia context, with excellent communications and writing skills is needed to support the UNEP Buildings team in the implementation of project activities in India. In collaboration with the Buildings team and project partners, the senior consultant will conduct the following activities: a. Facilitate engagement and coordination with state governments, local partners, and counterparts in India. b. Review documents and outputs from activities in India. c. Provide technical advice for pilot projects and state-level implementation activities. d. Provide recommendations for policy advocacy on the use of sustainable building materials. e. Research selected building and construction topics. f. Participate in GlobalABC’s roadmap coordination group calls and GlobalABC materials group calls. g. Support and participate in India-level working groups on passive cooling. h. Participate in the global passive cooling working group. i. Support communications efforts and outreach on Buildings and Construction activities. j. Submit monthly activity reports summarizing the tasks delivered. Qualifications/special skillsAdvanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent) in architecture, civil engineering, environmental policy, political science or economics preferably with relevant specialization in sustainable buildings and construction, resource efficiency, circularity, climate change or related field. A first-level university degree in combination with qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree. At least seven years of working experience in project management and capacity support at national level on sustainable buildings and construction and related policies is required. Understanding of contexts specifically in South Asia (India and Bangladesh) related to sustainable buildings and construction, as well as understanding of private sector, value chains of building materials and multistakeholder consultations. Knowledge of UN processes through work experience in a UN agency is desirable. Knowledge of climate change and resource efficiency / circularity related policies is desirable. Key Competences ● Excellent communication and excellent writing skills ● Good knowledge of the buildings and construction sector and related sustainability issues in South Asia is required. ● Ability to apply research skills in day-to-day work. Strong analytical skills and the ability to proactively seek and identify relevant information and solutions. ● Ability to work on multiple tasks with energy and commitment to due completion. ● Is conscientious and efficient in meeting commitments, observing deadlines and achieving results.
