Background:
UN Women, grounded in the vision of equality enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations, works for the elimination of discrimination against women and girls; the empowerment of women; and the achievement of equality between women and men as partners and beneficiaries of development, human rights, humanitarian action and peace and security.
Placing women's rights at the centre of all its efforts, UN Women leads and coordinates United Nations system efforts to ensure that commitments on gender equality and gender mainstreaming translate into action throughout the world. It will provide strong and coherent leadership in support of Member States' priorities and efforts, building effective partnerships with civil society and other relevant actors.
Under its Women in Leadership and Governance (WILG) programme, UN Women contributes to the UN Women's global Strategic Plan (2022-2025) Impact area one, โGovernance and participation in public lifeโ, and supports Ethiopiaโs effort towards the achievement of SDG Goal 5, Target 5.5; Goal 16, Target 16.7. The programme is in line with United Nations Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework UNSDCF (2020-2025) in Ethiopia, particularly with Outcome 1 (All people in Ethiopia enjoy the rights and capabilities to realize their potential in equality and with dignity) and Outcome 2 (All people in Ethiopia live in a cohesive, just inclusive, and democratic society).ย
In implementing its 2022-2025 Strategic Note, the WILG programme has supported the production of knowledge products that contribute to the overall goal of increasing the equal and effective participation and representation of women in leadership and decision-making positions at all levels of public life in Ethiopia. In light of this UN Women Ethiopia in collaboration with HoPR developed a gender mainstreaming strategy and toolkit was formulated to serve members of the parliament and the secretariat staff as a practical guide on how to scrutinize legislation and undertake oversight and its representative functions from a gender perspective. UN Women WiLG program plans to translate the GM strategy and toolkit from English to Amharic to ensure accessibility and usability for members of parliament and secretariat staff who us Amharic in their legislative and oversight functions.
To ensure the production of high-quality translated version of the HoPR Gender Mainstreaming (GM) Strategy and Toolkit, UN Women is thus seeking to recruit a translator with extensive experience in translating, editing and developing policy briefs, reports and toolkits. Under the guidance and direct supervision of the WILG Program Specialist, the Consultant for the translation of the Gender Mainstreaming Strategy and tool kit of the House of Peoples Representatives will ย translate and refine HoPRโs Gender Mainstreaming (GM) Strategy and Toolkit from English to Amharic, ensuring that the content is clear, comprehensive, concise and result based.
