This role is being established to help in developing a sports strategy and enable UNICEF to get more visibility in the world of sports especially in Football before the World Cup in 2026, starting with concrete support to the Mexico CO and linking their country-level work with global strategy and including co-host countries, USA and Canada. Four main areas have been identified:
1. Sports Strategy: Draw a plan and strategy for the partnerships and activations.
2. Sports mapping and partnership cultivation: Scan, Identify and establish contact with potential partners aligned with the strategy.
3. Industry trends and insights: Keep UNICEF up to date on the area of sports around the world.

4. Sports Conferences Participation: Ensure that UNICEF is participating in the major sports conferences & events globally as it relates to UNICEFโ€™s guidance, leadership and involvement for children.

How can you make a difference?ย 

Ultimately, the purpose of this consultant is to support the Mexico Country Officeโ€™s efforts to create a strategy that supports global level engagement given the large-scale impact and global platform of the 2026 FIFA World Cup games in three Mexican cities. The consultantโ€™s purpose is to also ensure alignment between the three host countries โ€“ Mexico, USA, and Canada โ€“ while connecting these communications and advocacy plans with GCA Strategic Partnerships.

Working under the supervision of the Global Strategic Partnerships Manager, the Sports Partnership consultant will be responsible for:

1. Working with the Partnerships Manager on drawing a detailed strategy and a two-year plan for the FIFA World Cup 2026 in USA, Canada, and Mexico.
2. Supporting the Country Offices on finding the best partners in sports in alignment with the strategy and maximizing the current partners activations and donation by identifying the opportunities and the shared values.
3. Prepare sports industry trends and insights continuously and share it with the different UNICEF offices that engage with sports entities to support and help them staying up to date with the changes that happen.
4. Travel and visit the country office to participate in workshops or important meetings with prospect partners.
5. Attend the main sports global conferences and make sure that UNICEF is existing in such events to increase UNICEFโ€™s visibility in the world of sports and to establish new connections with different sports entities. Potentially involve some speakers from UNICEF to participate in panels around the topic of child safeguarding and protection.

โ€ข First level university degree (Bachelor) in Communication, Marketing, Business administration, or another relevant field is required.
โ€ข Advanced certificate in Sports Management.
โ€ข Minimum of 3 years of relevant professional work experience in marketing, research, licensing, partnerships in sports, and events management.
โ€ข Prior experience is sports marketing, sports management and events management is highly desirable.
โ€ข Experience in the area of licensing, partnerships and sponsorship in sports is desirable.
โ€ข Experience in Business development and managing relations with sports entities.
โ€ข Some experience in desk research, mapping, profiling, and monitoring companiesโ€™ and best practices.
โ€ข Strong knowledge of UNICEF and prior experience in one of the UN organizations is desirable.
โ€ข Experience working in an international environment is a plus.
โ€ข Intermediate knowledge of Spanish is highly desirable.
โ€ข Fluency in English is required. Knowledge of an additional UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, and Spanish) is an asset.

Technical Assessment Criteria (applications will be evaluated based on the following technical criteria):

Each Proposal will be evaluated against a weight allocation of 75% for the technical proposals and 25% for the financial proposal.ย  The total maximum obtainable is 100 points.ย  The minimum acceptable technical score is 49.
