Consultancy For Individual to Conduct Adoption and Dis-adoption Study
IFPRI is seeking an individual consultant for Adoption and Dis-adoption Study. This consultancy is open to individuals only.
BACKGROUND
The International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI) is looking for a qualified and experienced consultant to support a team working on a research publication on Gender-specific adoption and dis-adoption of sustainable agricultural practices in four Sub-Saharan African countries. The consultancy will involve processing and analyzing primary panel data collected by the team over the period 2013-2022 and supporting the preparation of a journal article for publication and outreach. The consultant will work closely with IFPRI staff based in Rome and Kenya and IITA staff based in Ghana and Malawi. The consultant is also expected to liaise with and support study collaborators in project countries and attend essential meetings. The consultancy will run between March and June 2024.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
- Conduct data processing and analysis
- Prepare and draft a journal article on Gender-specific adoption and dis-adoption of sustainable agricultural practices in Ghana, Malawi, Tanzania, and Mali.
- Assist with various communication and outreach activities (e.g., blog post, brief)
- Liaise with researchers within and outside the CGIAR, especially those involved in the Africa RISING programme
OUTPUTS
- Datasets of processed variables, duly labeled and cleansed
- Syntax (do-) files associated with the data processing and analysis conducted
- Production of statistics in tabular and graphical forms
- Draft journal article, slide deck, and policy brief
REQUIRED SKILLS
- At least a masterโs degree in international development, development economics, agricultural and applied economics or a very closely related field. PhD preferred.
- Advanced knowledge of Stata software, good econometric skills, and proven familiarity with data production and collection processes
- At least three years of experience in analyzing complex household-level micro data, preferably related to agricultural technology and gender
- Familiarity with impact evaluation literature and experience in conducting impact assessments
- Good publication record in top-quality peer-reviewed international journals
- Capacity to deliver good quality products and services on time under tight deadlines and pressure
- Capacity to work independently, particularly in producing research outputs
- Knowledge of applied econometric methods for social science, especially for impact evaluation
- Due attention to details, and efficiency in delivering the agreed output
- Strong writing skills and capacity to analyze complex phenomena and publish findings in various forms
- Fluency in written and spoken English
- Excellent interpersonal skills and demonstrated experience in effective interactions and negotiations in a multi-cultural environment setting with researchers
- Excellent organizational and follow-up skills
PREFERRED SKILLS
- Familiarity with literature on agricultural extension, climatic risks, digital innovation, and nutrition
- Knowledge of French
- Household survey knowledge and experience in Africa south of the Sahara
