About the Program:

The Climate Program at WRI focuses on four main areas: stepping up national climate delivery, advancing international climate action, tracking progress toward climate goals and supporting equity and development goals in the transition to a zero-carbon economy. The Climate Program is involved in a range of high impact initiatives such as the NDC Partnership, Greenhouse Gas Protocol, Allied for Climate Transformation By 2025 (ACT2025), System Change Lab, Science Based Targets initiative and others. WRI staff working on climate are located in country offices across all continents.

Job Highlight:

World Resources Institute is looking for a dynamic and experienced Communications Manager to join our Climate Program. Reporting to the Communications Director, you will help shape the narrative around climate change, sustainable development, and environmental protection. Your work will involve collaborating across several sub-teams to craft comprehensive communications strategies, writing compelling articles, ghostwriting op-eds and overseeing the successful execution of launch events and initiatives. You will be supported by a crew of experienced and dedicated communication professionals within the Climate Program and WRIโ€™s Core Communications team. This is a term-limited role for six months, with the possibility of extension.

What will you do:

Communications Strategy (25%):

Develop and implement strategic communication plans that advance the goals and objectives of the Climate Program Identify important audiences, messages, and channels to effectively reach and engage stakeholders Continuously monitor and assess the impact of communication efforts, adjusting strategies

Content Creation and Messaging (50%):

Write high-quality articles and other written materials that effectively communicate complex climate-related topics to diverse audiences Ghostwrite op-eds and thought leadership pieces for senior experts within the Climate Program Edit and proofread content produced by team members to ensure consistency and clarity Develop key messages, talking points, and communication materials to support programmatic initiatives and advocacy efforts Draft press releases and media advisories and respond to media inquiries as needed Contribute to the management of the Climate Program's online presence, including website content, social media, and email marketing

Collaboration (25%):

Collaborate with climate experts, researchers, and policymakers to translate scientific findings and policy insights into compelling communication materials Serve as a bridge between technical experts and broader audiences, ensuring that information is accessible and actionable

Event Management (25%):

Plan and execute program launch events, webinars, and workshops to raise awareness and engage stakeholders Coordinate with partners, stakeholders, and event vendors to ensure successful event outcomes

What will you need:

Education: Bachelor's degree in communications, journalism, environmental studies, or related field (Master's degree preferred) Experience: You have 5+ years of experience in communications, public relations, or related roles, with a focus on climate, sustainability, or environmental issues Exceptional writing and editing skills, with a track record of producing persuasive and impactful content Proven experience in developing and implementing successful communication strategies Strong project management skills and the ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment Knowledge of climate science, policy, and international environmental issues is a plus Experience with media relations, including working with journalists and securing media coverage is a plus

Potential Salary: Salary range is between 96,000 USD to 110,000 USD. Salary is commensurate with experience and other compensable factors.
