Background
The Communication Coordinator will provide direct support to the NRC Ukraine Country Office in the implementation of NRCโ€™s internal and external communication initiatives. In particular, he/she will be responsible for collecting, drafting, and editing communication materials in collaboration with other functions of the Country Office and NRCโ€™s area offices.

1. Role and responsibilities
Generic responsibilities:

Support the development and implementation of NRC Ukraineโ€™s Communications Strategy, based on the Country Advocacy Strategy, and in line with programmatic priorities and NRCโ€™s Global Communications Strategy.Work collaboratively with colleagues in NRC Ukraine, in particular the grants management unit, to develop and monitor a communications action plan that reflects use of a variety of different communications vehicles (photos, case studies, online platforms, infographics, videos etc) and meets obligations and commitments with NRC Ukraineโ€™s donors.Undertake regular travel to NRC program locations to gather content relating to NRC programs, and support program staff with communications-related activities.Support all programs teams with the development of visibility materials, ensuring these are developed in compliance with NRC and donor guidelines.Work closely with media and communications colleagues at the global level to develop, coordinate and refine communications materials.Support NRC Ukraineโ€™s internal communications systems.Liaise professionally and efficiently with national and international journalists.Oversee NRC Ukraineโ€™s media and social media outputs, in coordination with NRC global teams.Build the technical expertise and capacity of NRC Ukraineโ€™s media and communications department, including by developing communications-related tools, templates or SOPs as required.Compliance and adherence to NRC policies, guidance and procedures.

Specific responsibilities

Visit NRC field sites to collect communications materials for internal and external use and support NRCโ€™s programs and partners in content gathering and other communications activities.Collect and upload quality photos, video, social media content and other materials for use in traditional and social media.Respond to inquiries from national and international journalists and help facilitate interviews.Provide training and on-the-job support to colleagues in field sites and local partners to develop their skills in communications, including taking quality photos and developing case studies, spokespersonโ€™s trainings, donor visibility and other.Work efficiently with programs teams and partners to develop visibility materials and other communications products that comply with NRC and donor guidelines.Draft and develop recurrent media and communications products, develop infographics or other visual materials as required.Engage actively with NRC global communications teams to generate ideas, polish materials and ensure NRC Ukraineโ€™s communications are qualitative, creative, property targeted and support the implementation of the Advocacy Strategy.Technical oversight of the NRC Ukraine media and comms team, across Country and Area offices, to ensure the coherence of NRCโ€™s activities and products.Other tasks as requested by the line manager.

Competencies are important in order for the employee and the organisation to deliver desired results. Competencies are relevant for all staff and are divided into the following categories:

Generic professional competencies:

Three to five years of experience working in media and communications (experience in journalism or with (i)NGOs/UN agencies would be an asset).Thorough knowledge and experience managing social media accounts.Thorough knowledge and experience drafting material for media.Experience with photography and videography, including editing.Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively with diverse groups through training, mentoring and other formal and non-formal methods.Fluency in English, both written and verbalWorking knowledge of Ukrainian and Russian would be an asset.Analytic and computer skills, including MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Access).

Context related skills, knowledge and experience:

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.Creative thinking.Strong work ethic and focus on results.Strong organisational and team working skills.Good ability to work independently.Sensitivity and high levels of self-awareness.Highly approachable, trustworthy and confidential.Knowledge of the humanitarian context in Ukraine, humanitarian operations and the dynamics of the humanitarian sector is a plus.Proven presentation, training and facilitation skills.
