Center for Defending Freedom of Journalists (CDFJ) is an independent and non-profit civil society organization, established in 1998 and located in Amman. CDFJ works on issues of media freedom, freedom of expression and human rights in Jordan and the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region, and aims to support free, independent and professional media, enhance security and protection for journalists, and enhance the role of professional media in supporting and developing democracy, freedom and reform in the Arab world.

The Communication and social media officer is responsible for the following main tasks: building and implementing communication and social media plan and enhancing communication with the public, assisting the researcher to prepare the required content for social media and advocacy campaigns implemented by CDFJ, following up and updating CDFJโ€™s website, and preparing and designing high quality materials for the use in campaigns and promoting the Centerโ€™s activities, projects and programs.

Main tasks and responsibilities:

  • Build and develop CDFJโ€™s media, communication and social media plan for the years 2023-2024, which must be compatible with the center's strategic plan and include specific goals, outputs, specific activities, and measurement indicators, in addition to the materials that should be produced in order to promote and market the center's work through media and social media.
  • Prepare the required content for social media and the Center's website, specifically the content related to awareness raising and advocacy campaigns that the center implements through social media platforms.
  • Create content that attracts the audience's attention and raises the level of its interaction.
  • Prepare high quality materials (photos, videos, infographics) for the projects and campaigns implemented by the Center.
  • Design various advocacy materials to promote CDFJโ€™s work (books, reports, press releases, posters, stickers) and other advocacy materials needed by the center to raise community awareness about issues related to human rights in general.
  • Follow up and update CDFJโ€™s website and social media platforms on an ongoing basis based on the projects and activities implemented by the center.
  • Provide reports on website visits and monitor and control SEO.
  • Submit reports on the movement of visits and follow-ups by the public on CDFJ social media platforms.
  • Report comments and questions that come from the public on social media platforms.
  • Provide technical support to CDFJโ€™s staff and facilitate the process of organizing meetings and conversations organized via the Internet with partners and target groups.
  • Update and develop CDFJโ€™s email list
  • Deliver training for CDFJโ€™s staff on using social media in a way that benefits the Center's brand.
  • Provide first-level support to employees, including but not limited to troubleshooting network, software, and computer hardware and providing technical support in information technology.

Required qualifications, experiences and skills:

  • Bachelor's degree in Graphic Design or Marketing or any related field.
  • At least 3 years of experience working as a Graphic Designer or Social Media Officer.
  • At least 3 years of experience in designing content for social media platforms.
  • Proficiency in dealing with social media platforms.
  • Proficiency in the use of site analysis tools such as Google Analytics
  • Ability to provide creative content in the form of infographics, videos or texts
  • Knowledge of internet marketing strategies.
  • Good knowledge of updating web pages.
  • Fluency in both Arabic and English, written and spoken.
  • Ability to work under pressure and with minimal supervision.
  • Strong communication skills (writing and speaking).
  • Experience in developing reports, success stories and designing of various promotional tools (posters, stickers, roll-ups).
  • Ability to work on several activities simultaneously (multi-task).
  • Ability to abide by the administrative and financial policies of CDFJ and the Centerโ€™s Code of Conduct.
