Description
The Clean Space Section coordinates the development of missions, technologies and design approaches to foster the sustainability of European space activities both on Earth and in space. Building upon a strong connection with user programmes, Clean Space coordinates the support to ESA projects and develops the necessary methodologies and standards to monitor and mitigate environmental impacts. This entails the definition and implementation of eco-design approaches, the cross-functional coordination and development of the Zero Debris approach, the implementation of the Zero Debris approach in ESA projects, capacity-building internally and through partnership and the development of ADR and IOS future missions and technology to foster the development of a circular economy in space.
You will report to the Head of the Clean Space Office, Space Safety Programme Office, Directorate of Operations.
Duties
Your tasks and responsibilities will include:
- developing an eco-design and LCA framework and coordinating the interface and support to projects for the implementation of eco-design and LCA;
- coordinating the development of the Zero Debris technical framework;
- coordinating the interface with and support to projects for the implementation of Zero Debris;
- defining and coordinating cross-cutting implementation of technology roadmaps for Zero Debris and ADRIOS for Circular Economy;
- defining and implementing technical contracts in COSMIC to foster the development of the Clean Space technical domains;
- supporting the evolution of technical standards and guidelines in all relevant technical domains;
- coordinating, with the PROTECT Accelerator, the capacity-building through partnership for Zero Debris and ADRIOS for Circular Economy;
- coordinating with TEC for support on the implementation of the Section's goals and objectives;
- interfacing with ESA delegate bodies, such as PB-SSA and the IPC;
- coordinating with the Clean Space Office.

The working languages of the Agency are English and French. A good knowledge of one of these is required. Knowledge of another Member State language would be an asset.

In accordance with the European Space Agencyโs security procedures and as part of the selection process, successful candidates will be required to undergo basic screening before appointment conducted by an external background screening service.
In principle, recruitment will be within the advertised grade band (A2-A4). However, if the selected candidate has less than four years of relevant professional experience following the completion of the masterโs degree, the position may be filled at A1 level.
