Job description

The Civil Peace Service is a global programme for violence prevention and peacebuilding in crisis and conflict regions. Specialists on the ground support partners long term in their commitment to dialogue, human rights and peace. The CPS programme in Guatemala focuses on promoting human rights and building non-violent social relations. The Office of the Human Rights Ombudsman (Procuradorรญa de Derechos Humanos (PDH)) is an institution for the protection and promotion of human rights in Guatemala. Since 2017, the CPS has been supporting the PDH in strengthening capacities for early warning systems and analysis of social conflicts to ensure improved and context-specific interventions to prevent violent escalations and to be more active in violence prevention. These mechanisms should be taken over by the PDH's Human Rights Observatory, a unit created to make the work of research, analysis and systematisation of information related to human rights in Guatemala more comprehensive.

Your tasks

Methodological advice on conducting research on the situation of human rights defenders, formulating indicators, forward-looking analysis, preparing analytical and early warning reports, and proposing measures in line with the conclusions and recommendations Advice on standardising institutional research procedures (collection, processing, analysis, systematisation and reporting on the situation of people with disabilities, early warning reports and recommendations). Design and validate tools and action methods for the institutional approach and immediate response to crisis situations and social conflict scenarios, and build capacity within the PDH (Observatory, Ombudspersons, Prosecutors' Offices and Assistance Offices) for their implementation.

Your profile

Completed studies in political, social or peace sciences (or comparable studies), postgraduate studies in human rights desirable Knowledge and proven experience in the design and application of research methods, prospective analysis, early warning of conflicts and systematisation in human rights issues Proven knowledge and experience in the application of methods of social conflict management, dialogue procedures, mediation and non-violent communication Proficient knowledge of the post-conflict context in Latin America, especially Guatemala High intercultural sensitivity, composure and resilience, ability for self-reflection and respectful handling of traditions, religion and cosmovision of the Guatemalan population Fluency in Spanish; further language skills are an advantage

Notes
