The Child Nutrition Fund is supporting a coordinated global agenda, the Global Action Plan, to end child wasting. Led by UNICEF with support from the government of the United Kingdom, the Childrenโ€™s Investment Fund Foundation, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and other partners, the Child Nutrition Fund brings together governments, donors and partners to support and incentivize country-led efforts to accelerate the scale up of sustainable policies, programs and supplies to prevent, detect, treat, and ultimately end child wasting.

The internship opportunity with the UNICEF Nutrition Team, based in Brussels, presents a compelling chance to contribute to a globally significant cause. Aligned with the overarching mission to combat child wasting as part of the Child Nutrition Fund, this internship is designed to offer invaluable support to our operations and partnerships. The primary aim of this internship is to facilitate essential functions within the Child Nutrition Fund. The intern will be tasked with a diverse range of responsibilities, encompassing crucial activities such as annual reporting exercises, the development of insightful dashboards, and engagement with partners at the country level. Key responsibilities for this role include:

1. Communication and Advocacy: The intern will actively participate in crafting essential communication and advocacy materials, including the development of the CNF Annual Report. By lending their expertise to these initiatives, the intern will play a crucial role in effectively communicating the Fund's mission, objectives, and impact to a diverse array of stakeholders.

2. Data Analysis and Quality Assurance: The intern will engage in various data-related tasks such as database creation, validation, quality assurance, development of informative infographics, and drafting and proofreading key documents and reports.

3. Impact Dashboard Creation: The intern will take on a central role in crafting the Impact Dashboard, a pivotal component of our website. Through this responsibility, s/he will harness their creative and analytical skills to produce compelling data visualizations that succinctly highlight the CNF's progress and achievements.

4. Country-Level Engagement: The interns will provide invaluable support for country-level engagement initiatives, including active participation in webinars and calls, with a dedicated focus on our priority countries. Through these collaborative endeavors, s/he will contribute to strengthening partnerships and fostering cooperation to combat child wasting in targeted regions.

5. Other tasks: Additional tasks may be assigned to the intern as necessary, reflecting the dynamic nature of the position.

The intern selected for this position will benefit from ongoing supervision, guidance, and coaching provided by their immediate supervisor throughout the six-month internship. Capacity-building activities will be organized to enhance interns' knowledge of UNICEF's work on the prevention, early detection, and treatment of child wasting, as well as the operations of the Child Nutrition Fund. A personalized learning and development plan will be agreed upon with each intern, focusing on improving technical skills such as report writing, database management, and data visualization (including interactive dashboards). Interns will also gain experience in supporting partnership management within a fast-paced and innovative environment. This internship offers interns the opportunity to develop and refine their skills while contributing to important global initiatives. Through practical experience and exposure to UNICEF's work, interns will emerge prepared for future professional challenges.

Living Conditions and Working Environment: Subject to the sanitary conditions at the time of the start of the internship, the intern will work in the UNICEF Office in Brussels, closely working with the nutrition team. S/he will work with an assigned UNICEF staff and report to his/her immediate supervisor. S/he is not expected to travel during the assignment.ย 

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will haveโ€ฆย 

ย University degree in international development, social sciences, economy, nutrition, public health, epidemiology or related field.ย  Familiarity with nutrition programmes, including prevention, early detection and treatment of child wasting.ย  Data analysis - Knowledge of database management and data visualization/dashboards.ย  Graphic design - Ability to work with graphic design software is an asset. Writing skills - Strong writing, research and analytical skills. Language - Excellent command of oral and written English. Knowledge of French and/or other UN language is an asset. Computers - Knowledge of PowerBI, Infogram, SharePoint, Webdesign, is a strong asset.

Minimum Requirements

To apply for this internship position, candidates should provide the following:ย 

Letter of verification from the college or university that the intern is currently enrolled in an undergraduate school and has completed at least two years of full-time studies at a university or equivalent institution towards the completion of an undergraduate degree (if the candidate is 18 years old, this replaces the two-year bachelorโ€™s completion requirement); or, Graduate Degree Program (i.e., Masterโ€™s, PhD). It should also state the expected graduation date. Recent graduates are allowed until 2 years after degree completion.
