Our Work In Sierra Leone:

Partners In Health (PIH) began supporting the government of Sierra Leone in response to the Ebola epidemic in October 2014. Recognizing the large need for continued investments in the health system after Ebola, PIH is committed to long-term health system strengthening in support of the Ministry of Health and Sanitation (MOHS), guided by the same principles as our emergency response and our work around the world: public sector accompaniment, integrated and comprehensive services, social justice, nimbleness and flexibility, partnership, community ownership, and evidence-based interventions. In the aftermath of the epidemic, PIH is committed to supporting the delivery of comprehensive health services in Sierra Leone, from the community level to the health center and to referral hospitals.

Position Overview

The main purpose of the position is to provide support to the Koidu Government Hospital Blood Bank and other blood banks within PIH-supported facilities to ensure reliable and safe blood bank services. The blood bank coordinator will ensure blood donors have a pleasant and fulfilling experience from the moment they arrive to the moment they leave.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

General Responsibility:

• Ensure the processes and activities provided during the blood drives are done with courtesy and professionalism, which will create a favorable impression encouraging ongoing blood donor support.
• Support blood donors’ mobilization, and sensitization campaign, including logistics for mobile and static blood drives in the district.

  Specific Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate activities with donors, recipients, hospitals, Red Cross and other agencies on blood drives campaign
  • Ensure compliance with quality standards and regulations on blood donors screen
  • Maintain an updated database and records for blood donors
  • Demonstrate excellent customer service and comfort working with people
  • Follow infection prevention protocols during and after blood donations
  • Manage the reception process by ensuring each donor is warmly greeted and assisted with initial intake for donation
  • Manage the hospitality process by offering refreshments to donors, thanking them for their contribution, and alerting the clinical lead immediately if a donor shows signs of feeling unwell
  • Exhibit five key courtesies: respect, compassion, communication, collaboration, competence
  • Conduct mobile/ static blood drives in collaboration with the laboratory scientist and Blood Bank Lead
  • Monitors and ensures completion of blood donor records
  • Perform any other duty assign by your supervisor or his designate

    Education and Work Experience Requirements

    Qualification and experience:

    • Diploma in Business Administration/ Business management from a recognized university.
    • At least 2 years working experience in a similar role
    • Demonstrates knowledge on blood donor activities
    • Demonstrates knowledge of handling documentation and records
    • Knowledge of basic computer skills (word, Excel and PowerPoint)
    • Ability to safeguard blood donors and recipients.
    • Ability to ride a motor bike
